do we really need three threads on the same topic?

Ahhh, I dunno i guess this is different. Anyway the worst call ever, no. Im sure there have been worse but it really depends on who your rooting for. Like pats fans feel the tuck call wasnt a bad call where Raiders fans do. I thought some of the calls in the 2000 NFC Championship game were plopty but if i looked at them unbiased, i guess they probably werent that bad

Don Denkinger calling Jorge Orta safe in the '85 World Series. Even the Royals fans could admit he was out, and the slo-mo video confirms it wasn't even that close.

While I concede the Cardinals imploded that game and then again in Game 7, that call was egregiously bad.

"Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

Chicago White Sox A.J. Pierzynski, right looks back at homeplate umpire Doug Eddings as Eddings make a non call on a pitch as catcher Jose Molina heads to the dugout eventually flipping the ball into the infield during the bottom of the ninth inning of Game 2 of the ALCS at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005. Pierzynski ran to first to set up the go ahead run as the White Sox beat the Angels, 2-1.

(Source Yahoo Sports)

HOW did the ump make a non call?!?!?!

The guy fully swinged and missed the ball, then that was strike 3, STRIKEOUT!

And that wasn't José Molina, the Angels catcher actually was Paul.

It's hard to argue with the Denkinger call. Although part of it is the significant time it happened.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Man there are so many to choose from...here are a few.

Denkinger in 85.

USA/USSR olympic basketball in '72.

OSU/Miami Fiesta Bowl 2003 (Yup an OSU fan admitting it was a B.S. call.)

Browns/Jaguars in 2002 (I think) when the refs allowed a replay challenge after another play had already been run. (The beer bottle game)

49ers/Redskins NFC Championship in 87. There were three ridiculous interference calls that basically put the skins in position to win the game. Their last drive consisted of those three flags. If I didn't know better I'd swear the refs had money on Washington that day. It was pure garbage.

I only heard the call in the Sox/Angels game tonight but it sounded like a pretty bad one.

I think it was 1998...could be wrong...I just know it was late 90s than early 90s..and yes it was an awful job

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Hate to disagree but the umps were right.

The rule is this (not sure what the book actually says but this is how I understand/have understood it) and I've seen it a hundred times.

On the third strike, whether its a called strike or a swinging strike if the catcher drops, traps, or the ball goes past him, then the runner can advance to first. The ball must go from pitchers hand to catcher's glove uninterrupted.

On the replay (and you can probably watch it again and again) the ball clearly bounces UP into the glove of the Angels catcher. It hits the dirt first. Thus the rule goes into effect.

Instead of blaming the umps blame the Angels catcher for not doing what is taught since Little League. If you are catching and the third strike is given then simply tag the batter. That's all yu have to do. Get up and tag him. Keep you head in the game.

Commend the White Sox for keeping their heads in the game.
