Interesting rumor.

Red Sox acquire Mark Prior, Cubs acquire Miguel Tejada, and the Orioles acquire Manny Ramirez, primarily.

Interesting.. I'd rather get Zambrano than Prior. If that was the case, I'd jump on this. The Sox may not be able to outhit the Yankees... but they could outpitch any team in the AL East, and just about any team in the league. But I'm not so sure I'd be willing to do it for the often-injured Prior.

"MLB Radio has reports the Jays and D'Backs wil strike a deal tomorrow involving Glaus and another hitter on the DBack roster to be dealt for Miguel Batista, Orlando Hudson and Brand League. the only thing that is holding this up is Glaus' no trade claus."

i don't want O-Dog to go but it is Troy Glaus, and Hill can play 2nd.

I found this article posted on a Red Sox message board...

Bagging Glaus on to-do list: Sox also mull Millwood

By Michael Silverman

Friday, December 23, 2005 - Updated: 12:57 AM EST

The Red Sox took a hit from their fan base for not coughing up the money to keep Johnny Damon, but there were signs yesterday the team was recovering by trying to put together a deal for a big bat and another big-name starter. Troy Glaus, the Arizona Diamondbacks? slugging third baseman, has been the focus of recent trade talks between the clubs. However, the Sox are not the only team interested in Glaus, whose fly ball power stroke makes him a natural fit for 20-30 home runs a season at Fenway Park. The Sox want him as a first baseman.

The Blue Jays were believed to be furthest along in talks with the Diamondbacks last night, but according to one executive who recently spoke with former Red Sox assisant GM and current Arizona GM Josh Byrnes, ?I think he?s going to Boston, that?s what it sounds like.? As tempting as Glaus might be, there were indications that the primary focus now is obtaining another pitcher first. That brings in free agent starter Kevin Millwood. Signing Millwood would allow the Sox to trade one of three starters - David Wells, Matt Clement or Bronson Arroyo - possibly in a Glaus deal or in some other configuration.

A deal for Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada remains a longshot, especially with the Orioles more focused on swapping Tejada for Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior. That deal is alive but currently involves just two teams. Exactly what the Diamondbacks were looking for in return from the Sox was unclear, although if the Sox were willing to assume the bulk of the $32.5 million remaining on Glaus? deal for the next three years, the cost in players may not be as high as one would think.

Team president and CEO Larry Lucchino said Wednesday at Fenway Park that the Sox would ?redeploy? the dollars slated for Damon. The $40 million they had allotted for Damon for four years certainly would cover Glaus, 29, who had 37 homers last season for Arizona. However, it would not address the Sox? glaring need for a center fielder, leadoff hitter and shortstop. The Diamondbacks are said to be interested in Toronto second baseman Orlando Hudson. The Blue Jays, however, are believed to be on Glaus? no-trade list, although he could waive it. The Sox are believed to be on Glaus? list of suitable teams.

?The Diamondbacks have been keeping us abreast in general of what?s going on,? said Glaus? agent, Mike Nicotera. ?It would not surprise me if something were imminent, but I couldn?t tell you. When you?re not part of the negotiations, you can?t tell what?s imminent.?

I'd send Troy Glaus and Scott Hairston for that package.

One thing Glaus is picky about is the weather, he says its too cold in Toronto, but you don't play baseball in December, and Toronto is as hot as anywhere during summer.  But we'll just have to wait and see.

Even so, April baseball can be killer, and for the first time in ages, the Jays may just feel the chill of October baseball. Even in places where its 105 in July, it can be downright miserable in the months of the winters edge

The Blue Jays and D'Backs, trade rumors are heating up today about Troy Glaus. The only problem is they want O-Dog ( Orlando Hundson ). It would be kewl to have Troy Glaus but why ..... why do we ahve to give up Hudson. He got a gold glove for what he did, its too much to give him, if the trade goes threw, no one will be happy, and the team will not be the same.

I know plus we have a open dome and its not even cold when its not open in the roger dome around mid-October, iv been in their in January and its not even cold in their, plus when its really warm it opens so i dont get why Troy Glaus is complaining, if they trade him to Boston its just going to be the same thing lol.

Glaus would have to waive his partial no-trade clause for a Toronto deal to happen. I suspect he included the Blue Jays on his no-trade list primarily because (i) they looked like perennial also-rans in the AL East; and (ii) there are financial and logistical disadvantages to working in Canada.

The first issue is still an issue, tho the club has obviously made strides to become more competitive. I think that TOR now has the pitching to challenge the Yanks and Red Sox, even if they'll never enter the same salary stratosphere of those heavyweights.

The second issue seems to me the greater impediment to completing a trade. I understand that the exchange and tax rates would significantly reduce his pay packet. And, of course, there's the issue of going through customs every time the team takes a road trip.

Glaus may ask for some financial incentive to OK a move to Toronto. I don't know whether he has any options or trade kickers in his contract that would compensate him for approving a trade, but if I were his agent I'd be asking for something sweet.

From a pure baseball perspective, I see both advantages and disadvantages to a move. On the plus-side, he has spent most of his career in the AL and is familiar w/ the pitchers; and he could play DH or 1B if 3B proves too strenuous for him. On the minus-side, if he does stay at 3B, playing on turf in the Rogers Centre would leave him susceptible to injury -- and he's already had issues while playing on grass.

I give a Toronto deal a 40/60 chance right now. Boston would seem a more attractive situation and it does not appear that his no-trade list includes the Red Sox. But I like the package that has been rumored from the Blue Jays, so I'll keep my fingers crossed that a deal gets done.

Listened to the fan this week and this was so funny I had to post it. A guy says:

"How about Matsui to the Red Sox for Ortiz, Ramirez, and Varitek."

I laughed so hard I nearly died....

Lord, it looks as if every team in Major league baseball could be involved in the Tajada trade. And if this holds true, Zito may not be safe in Oakland. But, if they do trade him, and only end up with bedard, or some prospects, im giving up on Billy Bee.

Apparently fieldturf is safer than grass...

But yes, your entire post is correct, we are at a disadvantage located up here because of all that... in fact ivan rodriguez blocked a trade to toronto in 1998 (or around then).

Cards sign Encarnacion

MLB.com story

NOW I'm excited. I don't know why, maybe its his name but I've always liked him. Perhaps Marlinfan can tell me if I'm getting my hopes up too much. I'm not expecting huge numbers, but he's basically replacing Larry Walker. Larry Walker last year was awful by any standard.
