Paul Lo Duca traded to the Mets

Not like Willis or Cabrera will have good years either. Willis won't get the run support, and Cabrera won't have anyone to protect him or any pitches to hit.

If i was either of them, id demand a trade

The Marlins....hate them as you may for having this fire sale...would have about 20 teams trade spots with them over the last 10 seasons.Think about it.The past 9 seasons only the Yankees have won more than one World Series. You dont think Cubs fans would gladly trade?Of course they would. The Cubs have had more pitiful seasons than fruitful....MANY more and look at how long it's been for them.

You think if you could approach the Cub faithful-the majority anyway-and tell them "look:We're going to build you up with quality free agents this season and you will win the World Series.Now...afterward we will have to dump these guys because of salary and various expenses and we'll get quite a few young guys in return.BUT...you'll get your World Championship THIS year and here's the rest.

Before you say 'No',you'll be competitive again in just 3 more seasons and we'll make a few more moves and 6 years after this title you'll get ANOTHER World Series title....GUARANTEED.That's 2 championships in the next 6 years if you accept these terms of a pending firesale after the first one....what do you say?"

Now TELL ME a Cubs fan would'nt jump at that??Tell me Tigers fan would'nt say 'Hey man that sounds like a fine deal'.Brewers' fans....are you guys lining up too?Pittsburgh....who invited you guys?Kansas City!!Oh geez!!This a full-blown party here!!I was only inviting the Cubs I was'nt expecting all you guys to show up begging to come to the party!!

Do you see what I'm getting at?

If not I'll explain my point. The point is the Marlins were worst in the National League in attendance last season despite being competitive the entire year and being in playoff contention right down to the final 10 days of the season. And yet the fans stay away. This would NEVER happen if the Marlins had good attendance figures. The club rebuilt and won another championship in spite of this and because of this those fans wont be able to see them win another....they'll go elsewhere and draw enough to put a competitive team on the field consitently. The Florida fans seem to think it's okay to not show up until they actually make the playoffs, and then they can go and show their support but until then the stay away in droves. You take the 2003 Marlins' talent and desire and put that in Wriglet Field with those fans...you're looking at a playoff team for years to come.We need look no further than the fair-weather fans of south Florida.

Another point

At one time I was saying "contract the Marlins" too. But in this era of no financial balance in MLB what are they supposed to do?

Their attendance is not good, but the rash of hurricanes in that area every summer has some people preoccupied?

So they are focusing on keeping very young cheap prospects and getting rid of them when they have value. That is why they are keeping Willis and Cabrera for awhile, when their contracts come up they will get rid of them too..

They have been pretty successful at it.

I still think they should combine the Marlins and Devil Rays but keep the team as the Marlins..Maybe split their home games between Tampa, Miami and Orlando?

*Yawns*

I'm surprised we got what we got for a catcher who made/will make 6.5M, hit .284, hit 6 homers, and played with half the season with a hamstring injury.

The Castillo trade hurt me a lot more.

Blame the fans if you want (because that seems to be the popular thing to do). The fans BUT there are deeper problems outside the organization (ie: the city and state). But I'm getting tired of explaining the situation. If you really want to know what's going on, outside of the BS the national media likes putting out go to the Marlins fansite.

There you'll learn of the South Fla v. Tally wars, the city's preferred buyer (Gustavo Cisnero worth about 5.5 billion), blah blah blah the rest of the tragedy. It seems like a lot of you think it's a black and white issue, well it's not.

EDIT: Fans WOULD show up to Marlins games if 1) It didn't rain everyday......2) The team and league would provide stability. It seems like every year something happens to further damage the franchises image with the fans. (98: firesale, 02: contraction, 03-04: no stadium, 05: relocation and firesale part 2.)

MLB should resend all deals just like they did in the 70's with the A's. They should not allow a fire sale, it sents a bad standard. Then again so does Selig and Fehr - doesn't Selig rhym with Stealing...mmm

More Mets news...from rotoworld.com:

ESPN's Peter Gammons believes the Mets will sign second baseman Mark Grudzielanek on Thursday.

The Cardinals are prohibited from offering Grudzielanek arbitration under the terms of his contract, so if the Mets just wait until Thursday, they won't have to forfeit a draft pick.

Is this the Marlins' third major fire sale in their short history?

After both of their World Series and then this year?

Wow... they're like the Expos, except with a couple of banners.

The Marlins didn't really have a firesale after their last title.

Is Cisnero buddies with Ariolla (or however you spell it) - the Miami city manager?

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
