NFL Fight songs and other things

The Ravens always have had a marching band. I'm not sure if any other teams have that.

The Seahawks don't have a complete marching band, but they did add a drumline a couple years ago. They call them "Blue Thunder." Still not sold on the idea.

And no 'fight song' for the 'Hawks, but they do play "Bittersweet Symphony" before the start of every game. Probably because that's how the past 30 years have been for Seattle, some good, some bad.

The Bucs have a fight song called "Pewter Pirates" but i absolutely hate it because every time i hear it played before a game, they get absolutely throttled <_<

couple weeks ago, they had the guys that do the "Real Men of Genius" things on the radio (the singer was the lead singer of Survivor). They did one about what you learn from Bengals fans. It was pretty damn funny.

ya I heard that at the browns game a couple of weeks ago

The L.A. Rams had a band, but I don't think they made it to St. Louis with the team. Which is a shame, because St. Louis (like New Orleans) is a town that historically had thriving music scenes, and it would make a nice tie-in for the team to its home city.

"Fly Eagles Fly" is a great fight song. I've seen 90-year old grandmothers belt it out while leaning on their walkers at parties. In April. Good stuff, although it wasn't heard for decades, until the tail end of the Vet Stadium years. Personal biases aside, it comes in no lower than #2 among the NFL fight songs, and I am giving points to "Hail to the Redskins" for being original and having longevity.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

I still hear Skol Vikings from time to time in various places. Especially on one of those "Tailgators" commercials.

By the way, Tailgators is a sports bar and grill in Fargo.

And, Wilson, I LOVE that commercial. I may have gone to eat at Tailgators more often just because of that ad. Talk about a commercial that works. Except you almost want them to play Skol Vikings at Tailgators.

Gridiron Heroes

The Victory Song of the Detroit Lions

(Verse)

Hail the colors Blue and Silver let them wave.

Sing their song and cheer the Gridiron Heroes brave,

Fighting for fame, winning the game,

Dashing to victory as they go.

(Chorus)

Forward down the field,

A charging team that will not yield.

And when the Blue and Silver wave,

Stand and cheer the brave.

Rah, Rah, Rah.

Go hard, win the game.

With honor you will keep your fame.

Down the field and gain,

A Lion victory!

...Not many people know the verse though, pretty much just the chorus is used.

GKB, when are the Lions going to change the lyrics? Their colors stopped being (just) blue and silver the day that black overran the scheme in the quest for ca$h...

They always seemed to play the same song after every Packer touchdown. Does anyone know what the song is? Also, if there is a story behind why they've been playing it (if they have been for years)?

Since about 1995, they've been playing "Bang on the Drum All Day" after the Packers score. I have no idea why, except it's an uptempo song. (And I noticed that at least one of the playoff games this weekend, another team has picked it up.)

The other GB "trademark" music is a riff that's played at various times, a bass playing duh-duh, duh du-du duh...(fans chant) GO! PACK! GO!

Sadly, the Packers had one of those wonderful old fight songs as was mentioned earlier, but at about the same time, the team dropped its house band (which dated back to the 1930s) and went with canned music.

Go, you Packers go and get 'em

Go, you fighting team, upset 'em

Play this game with all your might

A touchdown Packers, fight fight fight

So fight, for green and gold and glory

Fight to win the same old story

Fight you Packers fight and bring the bacon home

To old Green Bay!

after the chiefs score a td, they chant. were gonna beat the hell out of you, you , you , you, you, you....while they are pointing at the other team..

is it true that the redskins have the only marching band??

Also, at the end of the National Anthem, the singer will get to "home of the" and the fans will shout "CHIEFS!".

Thanks, thats what I thought the song was, but wasn't sure. I think they should try and bring back the fight song. I'm getting a little tried of the hearing "Hail to the Redskins" all the time.

I miss the Houston Oilers song they played after touchdowns. I used to sing the chorus as a little kid.

Look out football, here we come, Houston Oilers, Number One.

Houston has the Oilers, the greatest football team.

We take the ball from goal to goal like no one's ever seen.

We're in the air, we're on the ground - always in control,

And when you say the Oilers, you're talking Super Bowl.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One.

Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One.

We've got the offense, we've got the defense,

We give the other team no hope.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

You know we're gonna hold the rope.

Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One.

Yes, we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One.

'Cause we're the Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One - Five - Seven - Eight,

We're the best from the Lone Star State!

Houston Oilers, Houston Oilers,

Houston Oilers, Number One.

Dont forget that wasnt hte wave created in seattle? Im pretty sure every game ive gone to in seattle we end up doing the wave(but of course probably everyone else does it too now) The coolest thing ever was at the WSU Grambling ST. game, the crowd was doing the wave, and when it got to the Grambling Band, they started doign in in slow motion, then everyone else did it slow. It was sooooo coool. It took like 5 minutes to get around the stadium.

Patriots: We Are the Champions :D:D:D

Seriously, when I was in Pittsburgh for the AFC Title Game last year, we burned a Terrible Towel and sang the "Here We Go" song with "New England's goin' to the Super Bowl." Steelerfan was less than pleased, but that's what crazy guys from Michigan who don't get to see the Pats play in person that often do after 17 Yuenglings.

The Packers song they play after every TD is actually called "I Don't want to Work" by Todd Rundgren just for clarification. Other teams have started to pick up on it as well.

And we also have Go You Packers, but Im not sure if thats played at Lambeau.

"Go You Packers Go" is still played, maybe once or twice a game, but not at every kickoff as it was in the past. And it's recorded, not live.

(sigh and rant - the Packers had their Green Bay Lumberjack Band since the 1920s, when local musicians would take the train down to Chicago and play all night and the next day for games against the Bears. They wore suspenders and flannel shirts. When Lombardi took over in 1959, he had the band director dress them more formally - uniforms with military style hats. (The "Lumberjack" title was dropped and they just became the Packer Band). They played in the southwest corner of the field until the mid-90s and were dropped for a variety of reasons - limited room (with more media at the games), cost, and the desire to join other clubs in putting all of the "entertainment" in one package, tied in with the scoreboards and sponsors. Now, instead of band music, all we get are commercials and contests tied to corporate sponsors.

Which, I say, is a damn shame. And props to the R**skins and Ravens for keeping the tradition alive.
