Changing my Authentic Reds Jersey

I am the proud owner of a 2004 Cincinnati Reds Ken Griffey Jr. Authentic jersey, but it has the number 30 on the back and on the front top left. This wasn't a problem until now, but Griffey is changing his jersey number from 30 to 3, making my jersey no longer Authentic. So my question is, should I try and have my jersey changed to a 3, or just keep it the way it is. And if I wanted to have it changed, how in the world should I go about changing it?

Congrat's, you now have a throwback! Keep it as-is. Probably do more damage trying to change it. Besides - who's to say he won't pull a Jordan and just switch back after a slump?

I would definately keep it as #30... him changing his number does not suddenly make your jersey "not authentic", your jersey is still authentic and is accurate as of the year you bought it.

Your jerseys were not meant to predict the future, consider them period pieces.

Don't change a thing! Your jersey may not be current, but it was correct when you got it, and stands as a reminder of the past. Historically, your jersey will ALWAYS be correct, regardless of what number Griffey decides to wear, or if he changes his name.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

My favorite place for lettering is exclusiveprosports.com

They are also the ONLY place I have ever seen that even mentions stripping old numbers and re-customizing.

The thing is, most numbers are affixed with an adhesive to hold them in place before being sewn, which may leave a visible residue. In your case, going from a two-digit number to a one-digit number is going to be a big drawback.

What part of the country are you in?

Are you in or near Cincinnati?

No, I live in Virginia about 30 miles outside of DC, but my step-father is and a big Reds fan. Since he has raised me for 11 odd years now, I am a Reds fan as well.

I'm sure you can find an Eric Byrnes Orioles jersey really cheap right about now. :P:evil:

Is your jersey made by Russell or Majestic? I would say keep it the way it is either way, but remember that the current jerseys are Majestic, so having a Russell with #3 on it technically would not be accurate for any year. Jr is likely to only play a few more years in Cincinnati (if that long), so 20 years from now, he will most likely be remembered as wearing 30 there.

I kind of like the idea of him wearing 3. Maybe 30 was a jinx and we'll get to see him play a full year in a uniform! Plus some pretty good outfielders have worn 3 in the past, so go for it. The two off hand that I can remember are Dale Murphy and some guy by the name of Babe Ruth, good player in his time!
