That being said, the two cities are far enough apart that St. Louis should be able to support its own team (and maybe develop real rivalries with the Fire and Wizards -- since I doubt St. Louis residents travel regularly to Chicago or KC for MLS matches). I think whoever started this was soccer bashing, or trying to be silly.That said, Portland Timbers was the name of the NASL team much like San Jose Earthquakes. So, I could see MLS keeping the name Timbers for continuity sake, especially if its the same owners. The World Cup Qualifying games at PG&E Park were awesome, also the womens world cup was there. I loved the venue with the huge wall at one end, I thought it looked tight. It reminded me of a few EUROPEAN venues that have since gone out of existense.
