IronChefShark
the funniest thing about it is, after the plunking you see all the fans in the seats standing up and cheering as if lance berkman just launched one into the crawford boxes, then you hear the boos as springer then garner get tossed. springer and garner argue, yada yada yada....and through it all, Bonds has this "eh, whatever" look on his face as he goes and takes first base, to later score on a base hit. CZzyzx41
Good. Why waste four pitches intentionally walking the guy. Heck it says something about Russ Springer that it took him more than one pitch to hit Bonds. Barry Bonds. Our bobblehead in plastic armor.Might as well pitch to him though. You know, now that he can't hit and all. -DanielCheck Out My Podcast! HurricaneDavid
I just want to know why career journeyman Russ Springer has a beef with Bonds. I don't think Springer would have been throwing at him if it had been a close game. Probably just frustration over the score and the ridiculous amount of attention on Bonds. I can't say I'm particularly proud of the Stros tonight, but I'm certainly not rooting for Barry.

The_Admiral
Pitchers are now trying to intentionally toss at a guy on every pitch. Wow. Baseball has gone down the :censored:ter. Maybe he's crowding the goddamn plate? Give the pitchers some credit, they haven't been trying to intentionally hit Bonds across the board yet. However, there's nothing wrong with a message pitch now and then when you've got a guy who hasn't really figured out the whole batter's box thing. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Bleujayone
Bonds Hit by Pitch; Fans Give Springer Standing OvationHOUSTON (AP)-- Barry Bonds was plunked in the right shoulder to end a wild at-bat against Astros right-hander Russ Springer on Tuesday night. With the San Francisco slugger leading off the fifth inning, Springer's first pitch sailed behind Bonds' back, drawing a warning from plate umpire Joe West. The next four pitches all came inside, including one that hit Bonds' bat handle on the third delivery for strike one. The fifth pitch hit Bonds as he turned to protect himself. That's when Springer and manager Phil Garner got ejected -- and the Houston crowd gave Springer a standing ovation. Springer relieved Houston starter Wandy Rodriguez, who lasted only 3 2/3 innings. Bonds was unhurt and trotted down the first-base line and later scored on Jose Vizcaino's RBI single to give the Giants a 12-3 lead. The 41-year-old Bonds had already singled twice and driven in a run in San Francisco's five-run first. He also flied out at the warning track in right. Bonds was playing for the eighth straight game in as many days in his pursuit of Babe Ruth's 714 home runs for second place on the career list.................................................. infrared41
That display last night was pure bush league bull . For those of you who are happy about it I have a question. Why aren't you calling for every steroid user in the game to get plunked every time they're at the plate? A standing ovation? People here calling Springer their "favorite pitcher? I'm no Bonds fan but the reactions I have seen to the garbage that went on last night just sickens me. This isn't what baseball is about folks. Show a little class. pcgd
Pitchers are now trying to intentionally toss at a guy on every pitch. Wow. Baseball has gone down the :censored:ter. Do you think before you post? One guy gets plunked and "Baseball has gone down the :censored:ter?"Get real. Guys have been plunked before. They've been plunked since the begining of baseball. If someone doesn't understand why, they never played the game. Ty Cobb was a righteous a$$hole and he got plunked alot. (94 times in his career to bonds' 93) Then you have Craig Biggio who's got like 1,000,000 HBPs and he's one of Baseball's class acts. Plunkings for a$$holes and retaliation has been around for the history of the game. Barry might have shown Springer up on a Home Run 2 years ago. Guys remember. Pitchers and Batters are all about "do your job, I'll do mine. If you beat me, don't show me up, cause if you do expect something to happen." Plus, its about controling the inside corner of the plate. Babe Ruth never went up there with Titanium armor on his right elbow so he could hang over the plate. Neither did Hank Aaron. Or Pete Rose. Or Ted Williams. In fact, there isn't a member of the Hall of Fame that wore armor on his upper body for an extended period of time. Its all fine and dandy til one of your favorite players or one of your boys favorite players gets nailed.Get over it. Its baseball.(BTW...I do not condone the Houston Fans cheering. That is Bush League. The act itself is NOT. Its baseball.)

HatCityEnforcer
Am I supposed to feel sorry for someone that gets hit by an inside pitch, especially when they're up there wearing something they stole off a Medieval suit of armor? Hell no! Sorry, but pitching inside is a part of the game...and yes, "purpose pitches" are too (not exactly a great part of the game, but it's always been part of it)...I have have been a bit steamed when Piazza got clocked by a Roger Clemens fastball a few years ago, but as pcgd said, it's baseball. Stuff happens.Springer had intent to be sure...it was obvious when he airmailed the first pitch over Bonds's head...then again, with the size of that frickin melon he's got, how in the blue hell can ya miss? However, the 'Stros fans cheering it was way over the line. That's on a par with Eagles fans cheering when Michael Irvin was implanted into the turf at the Vet (and for the record, I never was much of an Irvin fan, but wishing injury on a guy is just a bit over the top)...As for feeling sorry for Poor Widdle Bawwy and all the abuse he's taken.... that! I've NEVER liked him..and it has nothing to do with any allegations of 'roid useage or skin color or anything else like that. The reason why I despise Bonds is because he's an a$$hole, always has been, always will be...an immensely talented a$$hole, but an a$$hole nonetheless...If he had a 10th of the class his late dad did, it'd be a 10th more than he's got right now.
