PaperAirplane31 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Astros: Nolan RyanRangers: Nolan Ryan That's funny.
marlinfan Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 It should have been Jeff Conine or Luis Castillo. 1997 | 2003
bullsfan4life Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Nats: Gary Carter Does that bother anyone else? "Everyone has good and bad days".
DrBear Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 The folks in Washington are absolutely howling about Gary Carter getting the nod.
Shumway Posted October 2, 2006 Author Posted October 2, 2006 I think all of the choices for the franchise were Expos players, so Carter was the best choice there. I doubt anyone could get enough write-in votes to overtake any of the given choices.
The_Admiral Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I think Livan Hernandez was a choice. Come on now. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Moser316 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 The folks in Washington are absolutely howling about Gary Carter getting the nod. As well they should. When I think Washington baseball, the name that comes to mind for me is Walter Johnson. The fact that he played for an entirely different franchise in the city is immaterial, he should have been a choice. If MLB really wanted to honor Expos history so much, then they should have been a seperate entry from Washington in the vote.
NJTank Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I do agree I think they should have done a Montreal HomeTown Hero and a Washington HTH for all 3 Senators/Nats franchises. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
marlinfan Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I do agree I think they should have done a Montreal HomeTown Hero and a Washington HTH for all 3 Senators/Nats franchises. I'm sure the five or six St. Louis Browns and Boston Braves fans still alive would want to vote for their HTH too. 1997 | 2003
Fred T. Jane Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 It should have been Jeff Conine or Luis Castillo. Craig Counsell [Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008 Attention: In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from your stay at the CCSLC, the reader is advised that the above post may contain large amounts of sarcasm, dry humour, or statements which should not be taken in any true sort of seriousness. winghaz Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Twins: Kirby PuckettMinnesota loves the Puckhttp://www.baseballmusings.com/archives/34-thumb.jpgMLB made the Twins pull this and they subsequently put one on each baseline. Well, this Twins fan voted for Killebrew. But I have good reason. Harmon was my boyhood hero. Sports heroes from your youth always trump sports heroes from your adulthood. As for the whole list, there were a lot of no-brainers. Hank Aaron. Ted Williams. Ernie Banks. Pete Rose. Bob Feller. Nolan Ryan and Nolan Ryan. George Brett. Tom Seaver. Babe Ruth remains the mightiest of the Yankees. Mike Schmidt. Roberto Clemente. Willie Mays. Joe Carter. And, yes, Gary Carter if you're talking about the franchise (but I do agree that they should have allowed per city, not franchise).
FiddySicks Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 D-Backs: Randy JohnsonWhite Sox: Frank ThomasMarlins: Dontrelle WillisAstros: Nolan RyanA's: Reggie JacksonMariners: Ken Griffey, Jr.Nats: Gary Carter These all seem a little odd to me.When i think D Backs i think of Matt Williams or Luis Gonzalez before I think Johnson. But that ones a hard one to rangeIt seems to me that the ChiSox should have had a bigger name than Thomas considering how old that franchise is. Especially with the way Thomas left the Windy City.Again, Willis just doesnt come to mind when i think Marlins. I think Conine, Edgar Renteria, or even Livan Hernandez before I think Willis.I agree with the poster that gave the Nod to Biggio, but ninetheless, Ryan was a good choice.Again, Jackson was a big part of the A's, and again ia gree he is a good choice, but I just see someone like the Eck over Reggie. Not that I dont agree with Griff, its just too bad that he split to Cincy.Ok, so we all knew the Nats were nearly impossible to predict. The_Admiral Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 It seems to me that the ChiSox should have had a bigger name than Thomas considering how old that franchise is. Especially with the way Thomas left the Windy City. Well, numbers-wise, he's probably the greatest White Sock in history, first-ballot HOFer for sure. Even though the White Sox have been around for over a hundred years, he's still their most accomplished player. Besides, it feels better voting for the Big Hurt than Shoeless Joe Jackson. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Shumway Posted October 3, 2006 Author Posted October 3, 2006 Actually, upon thinking back after reading some of your comments, I actually voted for a few others differently. I didn't vote for Randy Johnson(partially because I hate him with a passion), but rather Luis Gonzalez. He's been the face of the franchise for several years. I also voted for Harmon Killebrew over Kirby Puckett for the Twins.I'm not sure I even voted for Joe Carter, actually. I honestly think I went with Molitor or even wrote in for Juan Guzman.
