Marlinfan, get a skin, you minge. I wasn't being malicious. Now I am, of course, but come on. Then again, your team can't draw dick because it's toooooo weeeeeeeet and it's tooooooo hoooooooooot, so there are no alarms and no surprises here, are there.

It's arrogant. Worse, it will probably infect other professional leagues. Commemorative or Milestone patches are fine, crowing (pun intented) about what you did last year is tacky. I'm glad Bucfan brought up the Tampa endzones, because I wanted to puke when I saw them.

I HATE the term 'karma'...move here and you'll understand why. In this case it's fitting.

Before I get blasted, I have no bias for or against the Cards and Bucs. The Islanders did it right though.

Yeah I personally dont know of a single Tampa fan that looked at that and said oh thats a good idea. I saw that and thought about just how much more that target grew. And it got HIT that year.

But then again, thats what I consider in your face. Ive already stated my opinions on it, but to add a bit more I will say if there weren't more teams that wore these kinda patches I probably wouldnt be as cool with it. But truth is its not like the Cards the first.

Absolutely. The four-slash patch was far removed from the dynasty, and winning 4 in 4 is a big step up from winning 83 games and falling ass-backwards into October one year. Those four years ARE the New York Islanders, in a sense.

It's not necessary. And I'm not sure I like the logo as a uniform patch.

But to call it arrogant or unclassy?

I think that's just jealousy. "Infecting other leagues?" C'mon. Clearly this isn't something that every team takes part in, but it's certainly nothing new. LOTS of teams have done this.

And personally, I'd much rather a team celebrate the World Series victory the year before, then one from 25 years before (excluding a one game tribute). This is celebrating an accomplishment that much of the returning team partook (sp?) in. To celebrate something from 25 years ago all year is really living in the past.

People getting up and arms over a patch celebrating something that is definitely worth celebrating is ridiculous.

Might as well never have a championship logo, because using it anywhere is just bragging classlessly.

And Rams80? Why so down on the team this year? They're in great shape.

Oh, and of course I wouldn't even want the Cubs to wear a patch when they become the world champions. Commemorative patches should really be avoided at all costs.

Hee-hee. "When." Now that's funny.

The patches of the past 2 years have sported modified versions of the World Series logo, and in both cases, the team's logo looks as if it was added in as an afterthought. That sort of one-size-fits-all design leads me to believe that the "World Champs" patch might be an MLB-mandated thing, to spur the sale of home jerseys for a season. I'm guessing the only team that might get a pass on this one would be the Yankees.

I could give a :censored: about attendance, that's not my problem, that's the Marlins' marketing department problem. I'm sure most fans in cities like Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, Boston, etc. would trade 4 hundred-whatever consecutive sellouts, 100.9% attendance, 3 million attendance for two championships in the last 10 years.

I don't have a lot of confidence in the pitching this year, honestly. Also not happy that some of the players are already hurt (though Encarnacion can take his sweet time coming back).

From a purely baseball standpoint (because this is really only a merchandising scheme, as has been stated here), La Russa cannot like this idea. From reports in the Post-Dispatch, La Russa is hammering home the thought of "We aren't entitled to anything," "We have to start from scratch," yada yada yada.

The patch goes in the direct opposite direction of his mantra.

My guess is that on Opening Day, 350 new jerseys with this patch will be sold inside Busch Stadium.

Isn't this also coincidentally the 25th anniversary of the Cardinals previous World Series Championship?

(Although maybe they could doctor it into a "25th Anniversary Patch" for the 1982 team)

Horrible. I thought the Cardinals had more class than this.

Plus, its better than the Red Sox wearing gold trimmed jerseys. That was the most ridiculous thing ive ever seen, even if it was only for pre game.

It is all about the bling, baby! :puke:

At first glance of this topic, I said to myself "This is an awful idea," mainly because it takes away from the simplicity of the Cards' uniforms.

But then I thought to myself, "What's the point of winning a WS title if you can't reap the benefits of it?"

I'm on board with this idea, except I think that it should be a standard logo that can be used for every team. You want it? Come get it.

Your fu*kin joking me, right? Ehh well, my point on being unclassy just went out the window........

And even if its nox exactly classless, its still rediculous and tacky.

Gold trim? OK...that's overdoing it. Patch is fine, everything else is grotesque overkill.

It was a MLB designed logo that was altered to add the winning team's logo. We recieved the World Champion Merchandise, I believe, an hour or so before the final game. We started distributing the merch to all retail locations in the third inning and finished at the start of the top of the 9th. So it was like the Cardinals themselves designed it and thought "This is Awesome", but anything that shows you won the World Series looks great. :P

As for the idea of the patch this season, I could go either way on it. I don't see anything wrong or unclassy about it, as some people seem to think (maybe cuz their teams haven't won it in a while ^_^ ), but it's not totally necessary. The logo itself has increased our total sales, both in St. Louis AND here in Springfield. I will try and find out from the Retail Director how many of the New WSC Patch Jerseys sale on opening day and let you guys know. I'm attending the second game of the season, which is April 3rd, that's the Ring Ceremony game, where all fans get replica rings. Can't wait to get mine and complete the whole World Series experience.
