NFL Highlight Films

In the latest edition of Peter King's "Monday Morning Quarterback" on cnnsi.com, he brings up a good point that I actually was pondering the other day...

"f. How, exactly, will NFL Films put a highlight film together for the Miami Dolphins?"

...seriously...this year's Dolphins are one of the worst teams in NFL history...how would you make a, what...2 hour highlight DVD featuring 16 games worth of "...and then John Beck simply lost the ball (cue dramatic NFL films music)".

Would the NFL even bother to make a DVD for the dolphins this year?

as a Bengals fan I've watched an NFL films highlight tape for a 2-14 team and a 3-13 team. Basically all they do is come up with a positive slogan that means things are improving, for the Bengals it was "Changing stripes". Then the rest of the tape would be about what positives they've got going into next year such as Ted Ginn being fast or their QB being named after a lemon. It would be challenging to be the guy at NFL films who has to put that together because even those terrible bengals teams had at least 2 games they could showcase. Now that you brought it up, I am actually looking forward to seeing the dolphins tape.

In the case of this team it would be almost exclusively about returning talent, drafted players, and lots of training camp footage.

They'll probably focus on obscure stats as "highlights" and (like everyone else is saying) the personell changes they'll have made for next year.

I actually like watching the NFL Films highlights for the bottom-feeders as much as the contenders. NFL Films has a way of making even the most terrible teams look like they're ready to play the Super Bowl.

As a Bucs fan all I can say is that they better make a season film glorifying just how damn miserable this team is. All I hear is just how awful the Bucs were in their first season, why should the Dolphins get a pass? The Pats are gonna be talked about for years if they go undefeated and are gonna have highlight films out the wassou with commentary giving praise from many and criticism from members of the 72 Dolphins. Nothing would be better to see a highlight film where the 76 (or whatever year it was, I try not to remember) Bucs bash on how terrible the Dolphins were for two hours.

I don't understand why NFL Films waste time with teams that finish below .500 for the season. What possibly could they prattle on about for the specific yearbook films, how the team showed great growth and potential for the future, they battled tough, insert another tired cliche here, blah blah blah...

Besides, without the dearly departed "Voice of God" doing the narration anymore and everything on digital, it just doesn't have the same "OOMPH" as it once did.

Simple - because there's a market for them. Albeit a somewhat limited one, but one exists.

The NFL doesn't care who goes 16-0. It doesn't care who goes 0-16. It cares about bringing in the green.

Seriously, what kind of revenue do these video yearbooks bring in? Esp. for unsuccessful teams? I can't imagine, even amongst the faithful, that you'd like to relive the glory moments of this year's San Francisco 49ers or Atlanta Falcons squads. And freakin' PAY for the honour of doing so, at $17.99 a pop.

I remember SI used to give out the video yearbook for your favorite team with a paid subscription, but that was it.

What was the last stupid thing you spent $20 on?

a PUR water filtration system thats supposed to attach to my faucet. problem is the faucet i use wasn't compatable with it, so i took it back and got me a brita water filtration pitcher, easy to use, replace, no fuss, no muss and great tasting to boot.

The question was kind of rhetorical...

Rhetorical, eh?
