I do not care if a team is 12-0. If they did not win their conference, they do not deserve to be there.

you mean to tell me that a team can go 12-0 and somehow not win their conference?

Notre Dame, Navy, and Army can....

Or if said team was on probation, ineligible for post-season play and the conference decided not to count their conference games as a result.

I haven't seen it happen at the NCAA level. But a couple of years ago, a Kansas juco (Barton County) had all of its teams on probation except men's basketball (that team had served its probation the year before). The women's basketball team either went unbeaten or lost only one game in the conference...but the conference didn't count its games, so no championship.

(Oh, and just to be on topic: LSU 28, Ohio State 17.)

It's happened at the D-1A level - Auburn went unbeaten while on probation in 1993. For that matter, had Iowa not lost to Iowa State back in 2002, then Iowa would have gone 12-0 and not won the Big Ten title (Ohio State gets it because they were #1 in the BCS and that supersedes any tiebreak for the Big Ten).

Considering Im a Die Hard Vols fan, I gotta root for any SEC team thats not Florida, even if it kinda pains me to do so. While ESPN blows it way outta proportion, it's hard to dissagree with it being Boss in terms of a football conference. Hell, they have by far the best team in the nation in my opinion, and they weren't even good enough in conference to even play for the SEC title (Georgia). That and I pulled for OSU last season like I had family on the team (Strictly for my undying hatred for Florida) and they showed just how much of a waste of my time they were, same in basketball. And im tired of rooting for a team I strongly dislike anyway, so i'll take the lesser of the two evils here and go with the Tigers.

But even so, I still feel Georgia vs USC would've been the better matchup here, but unfortunately both lost at the absolute worst times and therefore missed out. Oh well, thats the breaks. Gotta deal with em somehow till a playoff is put in place (And the Everly Brothers pop up with: Whenever I want you, all I have to do is Drea-ea-ea-ea-eam, dream, dream, dream Drea-ea-ea-ea-eam)

I wish I saved that "Sportsnation" map that they ran with the poll question, "Did the BCS pick the right teams for the title game." Only Louisiana and Ohio thought so.

Personally, I don't blame the OSU fans for supporting the status quo...it's they only way they could even come close to the championship game this year.

Do I think the "best" team in college football will be crowned tonight? I have to be honest and say no. I am not sure if LSU or Ohio State could beat USC right now. I think if you look through the "official college football thread" that you'll see that at one point I even said I was glad the Buckeyes don't have to play USC.

That said, one of these two teams will walk away tonight as BCS Champions. Don't blame either one of these teams for the failings of the system. It's not their fault. A lot of teams had every opportunity to get here and a lot of teams blew their chance.

Ohio State played the schedule in front of them, won their conference, and in the end they were tied for second best W-L record in D-1. Under the current set-up, who should have gone over Ohio State? I'd say only Hawaii.

They went 12-0.

As for LSU, well they did "go undefeated in regulation" which is true (as well as complete bull- :censored:) but using the same logic I could say that LSU is also a few lucky plays from being 8-4. But they did win the "toughest conference in football." So if you don't like LSU in the title game you need to blame everyone who pimps The SEC as being better than everything short of the AFC South and NFC East. Personally, I don't think LSU could stay within 20 of USC.

This is the match-up we have and until they adopt a playoff system this is the system we're stuck with. I don't plan on apologizing for it should my team win tonight. I doubt you'll see any LSU fans apologizing either.

The only thing that other teams can hope for in terms of a split NC is if 2-loss LSU wins in a blowout. If LSU beats the brakes off of OSU, then I believe that the AP is going to pull a fast one and crown either USC, UGA, WVU, maybe even Missouri or Kansas as their national champion, and we'll have a split. Only in the case that the LSU-OSU game gets unwatchable. If that happens, then the AP vote will get MIGHTY interesting.

Army is a member of Conference USA.

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

He's right. Army was in C-USA for a year, then they decided against being in a conference and went back to being independent.

Smart move if Army gets good all of a sudden.

Yeah, at times it sure seems that way. As soon as I saw your post I knew you were going to be "corrected." I had no idea it would turn into a subplot in the thread.

To be fair you didn't use the rolling eyes smiley, you used the crazy eyes smiley. Smileys make all the difference.

Nope. I still have vivid memories of this one high school I played at for a game, and their band BUTCHERED the National Anthem. It was so bad that they realized that they just messed it up and stopped after "the land of."
