Cubs bringing back blue alt jerseys

From the very bottom of a cubs.com notes package:

"The Cubs are considering bringing back the alternate blue jerseys for select games. No word on whether they will only be used when Carlos Zambrano pitches."

This is not surprising to me, considering last year's prez dumped them and he has jumped to the Blackhawks now. I wish they would have tweaked them a bit first instead of just reviving the old bp look.

I hate when they wear them at home, but if they limited it to one day a week instead of letting pitchers pick I could live with it.

I like that they are bringing back the blue jerseys, and especially like that they are for select dates. In 2006 they let the pitchers decide, and the blue jerseys were being worn way too much. I think once a week would be a good amount, and I would rather that they wore them more often on the road.

They really didn't wear them at all last year? I didn't even realize. They're good in moderation, but yeah when Zambrano and (a couple years ago) Matt Clement used to wear em every friggin start, it got to be a little much. Especially with them having such a nice home/away set. I'd kinda like to see the Sox cut back on the blacks this year, makes em more special when they only get worn occasionally.

I wouldn't mind seeing some red piping thrown on there.

Also, I'd say Saturday day games. The whites look really nice when worn at night, so I'd relegate the blues to day games, and Saturday (or I guess Sunday, too) would probably be a better use for day games. I know the Cubs tend to play day games a lot, even during the week, but alternates being used for that purpose should be used on weekends and/or holidays/special occasions.

Nope. Not at all. Don't the Sox switch only when they lose? In that case, I'd say the longer you see the black jerseys, the longer the winning streak. I could live with that kind of plan as well.

I like it, just as long as they are only worn once in awhile.

I think it should be a rule that alternate jerseys cannot be worn more than twice in a 7 day span, or only once per series.

I don't know about the Cubs, but the Brewers let the starting pitcher select which shirts he'd like the team to wear, unless it's a special day for a throwback, Retro Sunday alternate, or promotional day (like when the fronts said "Cerveceros" or something). Anyway, the pitchers would usually select the jerseys in which they won the most games / had the best record; I think the Brewers wore their alternate blue jersey more than their home whites about 2:1. They also wore blue a lot on the road.

So basically if the Cubs bring these back and start winning whilst wearing them, then they will wear them every day to try to keep it consistent.

It was realy bad with Z, Clement, and Prior (who wore them on the road). Throw in (IIRC), Estes in the 2003 Div Champ season, and they wore the blues way too much. I too don't hate the blues, just had grown to hate how the pin-stripes (and the roads, which I happen to like) had been tossed aside for a sub-par alt. I'll welcome-back the blues if they are turely are used sparingly...

I don't recall Prior ever wearing the blues (though I did watch the only game Maddux pitched in the alts). Wood was the one who wore pinstripes at home, blue on the road.

I always liked these if just for the fact they had the National League logo on the sleeve.

I always wondered the logic behind that. Anyone know the reason why they decided to slap the NL patch on the sleeves?

Yeah they pretty much ride whatever jersey they're wearing til they lose, whether it be the home whites, vests, road greys or black alternate. It is nice to know that when you see the blacks for 6 or 7 games in a row it means they're winning, but still, I just think that's being too superstitious. But I guess I won't have to worry about long winning streaks anytime soon... :D
