2008 MLB Season

So now that the regular season is over how did everyone do in the prediction department? I'm pretty happy with this one. Mostly because it may have been the only one I got right. :D

Tigers lose again today. I'm calling it. Detroit doesn't make the playoffs this year. I am beginning to wonder if they'll even go .500.

Yes I was at the game and just got back a short while ago I will be posting pics.

If Scott Schowenweiss and Aaron Heilman ever wear a Mets uniform again I will scream.

Its amazing how close they came with a bullpen so bad, so I hope they bring Jerry Manuel back next year, and dump the entire bullpen.

I hope Omar does not get his extension.

I hope they eat Luis Castillo's contract.

and most of all I want K-Rod.

The ceremony was trully great but I dont know this team is too good to miss the playoffs two years in a row. Is it lack of heart? Like of a clutch hit? Lack of a leader? I dont know but they must figure it out for next year.

1. Careful what you wish for Tank.

2. No. It's lack of ability. Simply stated, they just aren't as good as everyone thinks they are. If you take a serious look at The Mets and see them without all the preseason hype you'd be pretty happy with what they did what they did this season. I won't say that The Mets overachieved this season but they also didn't underachieve. They had a solid season.

These are my favorite "predictions":

(Tank was right!)

Ladies and Gentlemen.... your first place Tampa Bay Devil Rays! :D
On behalf of the Mets I like to concede the division to the Phillies now, they are the better team lots of good young American stars, I wish them good luck in the playoffs, and hope that after a good house cleaning the Mets can taste the playoffs some time in the near future.

You know, had you been one of the passengers of the Titanic, you definitely would have hopped in a life boat and made it to America safely after it bounced off of that ice berg, because I can't think of a time when I've ever communicated with someone who's so convinced that the ship is constantly sinking.

The Ship is Sinking? its sunk.

Its better I realize that now and just throw my hands up rather then be frustrated any further. They dont care why should I. Why should I let them ruin this season for me.

The Mets are 1 game under .500 and thats what they are a .500 team, They are too old, too fragile, and not enough heart. At least there wont be a heart wrenching collapse this year.

Their lack of depth is terrible they called up Abraham Nunez despite batting .133 in AAA.

Their manager is an idiot

Their GM seems to only look in one direction when it comes to talent.

And thats not to mention how they screwed up Ryan Church's concussion. When he hit his head they should have put him on the DL then and there but now he is still feeling the effects and made several long flights and its seems to have exasperated the condition.

The Phillies are never out of games and are starting to pull away they have the younger hungrier players. I got a ticket to final game at Shea and I guess it will be the final game at Shea now since this team is not going to the playoffs.

I don't think that one was a prediction. He was just pointing out that The Rays were in first place on the first day of the season. :D

Losing Tatis and Easley killed us down the stretch, we needed them against lefties.

NO the Mets are that good.

Johan Santana led the NL in era finished 16-7 and the pen blew 7 leads for him

Mike Pelfrey is one of the best up and coming starters in baseball

Oliver Perez can be dominant at times

John Maine is solid but he got hurt

Pedro is done

The Mets had three players with more the 100 RBI. Reyes and Wright led the NL in hits so their lineup despite sometimes lacking the clutch hit was good.

The Mets just had what may have been the worst bullpen ever for an 89 win team, and thats what killed them,

Maybe you add another righty bat next year, Daniel Murphy is going to play 2B in winter ball.

Oliver Perez is a FA, and has Borass as an agent so re-signing him may be tough, but he is replaceable Jonathan Niese I got a feeling he will be good.

Other then that they need to completely overhaul the pen. 18 blown saves after the ASG. The Mets lost six games at home in which they held a four run lead. You just take away two of those blown saves Mets are in the playoffs. It was the bullpen and only the bullpen that caused this.

No, it wasn't a prediction.... your post afterwards "Go Rays" was better than that. ^_^

I saw, I came, I left.

Oh come on, I was subtly trying to let you take credit for predicting this mind-blowing outcome. You don't have to be so modest. :D

NO the Mets are that good.

NO they obviously aren't. Honestly Tank, the Mets have more problems than just the pen. For starters they have the most overrated lineup in the history of the game. Reyes, Beltran (Especially), and Wright (at times) seem to make a lot of costly errors (K's, stupid mistakes that fire up the other team, fielding errors at the absolute worst time, ect). Of that ENTIRE team, the only one I'd ever truly be afraid of facing is Delgado, because it seems like the rest of them always find some way to screw it up.

Delgado made an MVP push in the second half so you have to include him too, and Daniel Murphy is a start in waiting.

The lineup is fine for the most part they need to perhaps be more selective in clutch situations but thats it.

NO the Mets are that good.

No offense Tank but if you're team is so good why can't they even get a wildcard spot in the National League? You want them to be that good because they spent a :censored:-load of money and they look great on paper. Ask the Mariners how that works out. I'm not bashing the Mets. I like the Mets. The fact is the Mets are a solid team. But they are not by any definition a great team that just keeps getting bad breaks. Great teams overcome injuries. Look at The Rays. Look at The Red Sox. Look at The Angels. They all had injuries to key players at some point in the season yet they still found a way. Just saying...

The pen is what killed the Mets nothing else, even games they won it was like you had to close your eyes down the stretch. If they sign K-Rod they will be unstoppable.

Have you ever watched K Rod pitch, Tank? The reason he gets even half of his saves is because the Angels spot him so many damn runs. He's an absolute nightmare to watch. He once blew a save against Oakland because he dropped a throwback from the catcher. You think your bullpen scares you now? Just wait till your Mets are paying him 30 mil.

Well that part of the team should be gone, Aaron Heilman is the king choker, he is why the Mets lost in 2006, and he gets worse every year since.

The Mets really do need an obscene amount of help. But don't expect them to get it. It's not realistic.

However, I would just like to tell the people who in April, May, June, or July that say "It's just one game, you'll get 'em tomorrow", how many times does it have to happen...how many times will you fail in the end...before you learn that EVERY game is just as important as any other. Today's game was no more important* than any of the other 72 they lost. If they didn't blow just TWO of those games...boom...October baseball. That's why you take nothing for granted. That's why you never let your guard down. That's why I don't want to ever hear anyone again say "It's only one game". It is all the difference needed to separate winners from losers--which is what the 2008 Mets are. Losers.

* Important in terms of the standings. Obviously in terms of psyche, that do-or-die mentality, and other intangibles, some games are BIGGER than others...but not on paper they aren't--nor can they be.

Well that attitude was let go in June the its just one game garbage did not exist with Jerry Manuel there, and I like to see him get a full season.
