Basebal Returning to Montreal in 2009?

There is speculation that the Mets and Cardinals will play an exhibition game next year in Montreal to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Major League baseball debuting in Canada. It would be fitting for the Mets and Cards to play becasue the Mets were the first- and sadly the last- team the expos faced (both times at Shea) and the Cardinals were the first home opponent in Jarry Park. The Mets would wear the Expos home white jerseys while the Cards wear the visiting colors.

The Mets. Really? Were they not the divsion rivals of the Expos for 35 years?

Why aren't the Nationals doing this?

Because that would make too much sense

MON AMOURS SIEMPRE!!!!

Somebody back me up on this, because my French is rusty ... but this means absolutely nothing, right? "Siempre" is Spanish for "always."

I was excited until I read this and then realized it couldn't possibly be true.

Right, it should be amended to read "Expos home whites, with rouge, blanc et bleu pinwheel caps"

Well it doesn't mean absolutely nothing in French... it's basically "My Love (Siempre)"

Expos home white jerseys from 1969-1991, I meant to say.

Now what I'd love is to see the Mets wear these

And the Cards wear these

It'd never happen, but would be interesting nonetheless.

1. For starters, Minaya was the last GM for the Expos, and Manual once played with the Expos.

2. Remember Rusty Staub, Le Grand Orange, who played with both the Expos and Mets.

3. The Dodgers, as you may or may not know, had a AAA Farm club from 1928-1960 Called the Montreal Royales. Jackie Robinson was on that team before becoming a Brooklyn Dodgers.

Those are all fine and good, but...

1. The Nationals used to be the Expos.

Don't forget the one and only #8 Gary "The Kid" Carter played for the Expos and Mets. He's the only Hall of Famer from Les Expos.

Tony Perez is crying.

Why bother. The Expos are gone. Why celebrate the 40th anniversary when they don't exist anymore!!!!!!!!!!! Dumb

That's a good point. What's the purpose of celebrating what could have been? But really, it ain't no different to what Expos fans have always done, like constantly bragging about being the best team in Baseball in 1994, when they never really won the world series...nor did they even get the chance to do so.

It's too bad because if they had won it, I might have ended up being a baseball fan.

Actually, the Dodgers farm team was the Montreal Royals. The Montreal Royales were a franchise in the Canadian Baseball League.

Further, though the second International League incarnation of the Royals operated from 1928 to 1960, the team served as a Dodgers farm team from 1939 to 1960. From 1939 through 1945 the International League carried a designation of AA.
