FiddySicks
There isn't enough talent in the hockey world to suppourt a 32-Team NHL. I would rather have a strong 26 team league that if fun to watch, full of talent and has good stability anyday. The question then which four teams get the boot ...This is totally just all me, not based on numbers, or financial statements, or attendance, or history, or arena deals, or anything like that. This is just who I'd contract if there were no legalities, gun to my head, just get rid of 4:- Nashville- Phoenix- Florida- AtlantaSorry to those cities and fans...but that's what I would do with a magic wand needing to get rid of 4.Well, in that case...DetroitPittsburghNew JerseyDallasAhhh, dare to dream On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) rams80
If the NHL does expand, the next (and last) two cities should obviously be Winnipeg and Quebec City. Why? Neither one of them have truly acceptable arenas, and neither bring new fans for the league. (You know, the raison d'etre of expansion.)EDIT-For what it's worth, expansion is a very bad idea at the moment, and I've never quite bought the whole "32 is the nice, perfect number" argument. (Watch folks...there will be a new perfect number when the NFL expands again in the next couple of decades.) illwauk
Expansion in Las Vegas and Kansas City has been speculated for about a year now. I've been warming to that idea ever since for numerous reasons.I mean... for real? And the NHL wonders why it's a joke.I'm not too hot on Kansas City either. If it does work, it'll be at the expense of the Wizards and/or the Brigade.
Brendan
I think after the Sonics left, you should try and get a team to Seattle, thats the only place that expansion makes sense. I guess the NHL hasn't learned their lesson about expanding to quickly, because the last time expansion happened it worked out real well (besides Minnesota and Columbus)

TBGKon
I cannot believe that the NHL would consider expansion, rather than focus on relocating struggling teams to new (and better) markets. An area to consider is the American Pacific Northwest. I know Vancouver is there, but realistically I think Portland could be a good NHL city. I thought of Seattle, but with their arena problems and closer proximity to Vancouver, I decided Portland would be a better option. Also, everyone says to relocate southern teams, but what about Columbus? Their average home attendance was the 3rd lowest average and 2nd lowest % of capacity in the league in 07-08. Not saying they should or shouldn't, but just speculating. A lot. Especially since PHX and ATL are my two favorite teams, out of any sport. And in most sports, teams don't just get the axe, they relocate. Although that's more of a NBA trend these days. The NHL isn't going to contract teams, period, the players Union won't allow that.Nashville and Florida would be the top 2 candidates for relocation, with the NY Islanders being third. Teams like Phoenix, Anaheim, Atlanta, and New Jersey have relatively new arenas and will be given a pass, in terms of relocation/contraction. Magnus
All this talk about expansion/contraction/relocation is why I designed my XHL concepts in the first place.I know the logos were laughed at, but the idea is fundamentally sound:A new league, all based in CFL stadiums.I know Canadian fans would fill that. Explain to me how your suppose to play a April playoff game in a outdoor stadium, let alone a 82 or so game schedule. Vancouver, one of the strongest Canadians markets couldn't even do one outdoor game.

Jer15
I heard something yesterday that I found very interesting. Why it never crossed my mind before, I don't know.Regarding the situation in Nashville.Since our friend Boots screwed up, his stake in the steam will be sent to bankrupcy court. As we know, the bankrupcy judge doesn't give a flying you-know-what about who/what buys his stakes...all he wants to do is recoup the losses. I mean that's the guy's job. So the NHL is basically going to have no say in who ends up with 30% of the Preds is the working theory.Which of course leads up to the whole "own 30% is majority, and after 2 more seasons the majority owner can opt out of the contract at the areana if they don't average 14,000......" ect. The other CFL stadia without rooves would need upgrades, but it would work fine once they were in place.
