Gothamite
If we started kicking all the cities which have used "________, USA" out of their states, most states would lose their tax bases. It's Ohio, just the kind of Ohio other Ohioans don't like. kmw_29
First of all, Cincinnati isn't in Ohio. It is it's own Principality wedged in between Kentucky and the Ohio border by the river. Just look at their most recent tourism campaign "Cincinnati, USA". It's a great city with nice people, and I was born there, but everyone from there believes the earth floats around it. So I don't know what Palmer is complaining about. He's not in Buckeye country, he's in Bearcat country. Second of all, name a recently arrested Bengal and I'll give you a dollar. They released Chris Henry and Odell Thurman. It's no longer an issue. Third of all, I know that a lot of players trade their team's gear at the Pro Bowl, that's probably where he got it.As someone who went to college near Cincinnati (I went to Miami University in Oxford, OH), I can assure you that all of Ohio is Buckeye country. People from Cincy are nuts about the Bucks there.
floydnimrod
As a current resident of Cincinnati, I can say a lot of people here are Bucks fans. But I know a lot of UC fans here too. Many people root for both teams in football, but UC in basketball. I for one, am a diehard Bearcats fan 100%, no rooting for the buckeyes for me (unless it's against Michigan, or in a bowl game).Someone mentioned that it may be Carson's brother on screen, it still wouldn't matter, as he is also a QB for the Bengals. And Cincinnati IS an [above average] city with nice people, but I don't believe the earth floats around it. Sport
What the hell are you talking about? You're saying that Cincinnati is it's own sovereign state? No, I'm saying it might as well be. It was a joke, like Gothamite said. Could you provide even one thing besides a tourism campaign slogan that backs this up?I don't need anything else. I'm talking about an attitude. I have a number of friends in college who are from Cincinnati and have this smug disposition about their city. I can't really explain it, it just is. On Sundays we all cheer for the same team, but I don't share their "greatest city in the world" opinion. And like Fnz said not everyone from Cincinnati is of that opinion. hormone
On one hand, it looks bad. Sort of like the Pepsi guy drinking a coke when he comes to fill your machine. On the other hand, what if the guy is a fan of that team/player? He's just an employee of his current team. It's not like decades ago when athletes personally hated the other teams. Now, you can play for that team next season because they offered you $250 more than the $7 million/year you were currently making.
FiddySicks
I don't see what the big deal is. Nobody freaked out and called Shaq an idiot turncoat when he was wearing a Raptors jersey a few weeks ago. Plus, what's wrong with honoring a team as successful and powerful as the Lions? Until then, he damn well oughta drink Pepsi. We've long known that the Bengals have a problem with team cohesion. And know it seems as though we know who to blame. If the quarterback has so little interest in his team, why should anybody else?I'm not expecting him to be a fan. I think a group of guys can succeed without necessarily liking each other, but there's no team if there's no money. Carson Palmer makes a lot of money from and for that team. Little kids that idolize Carson might well buy Detroit Lions shirts instead of Bengals shirts, and that's not right. It's a stretch, sure, but as the most visible player on your team, you're accountable for both wins and income. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

Ben5
I think you guys are taking all this WAAAAY too seriously. As previously stated, Carson has at least 1 Lions shirt from before he was a Bengal. Plus Jon Kitna currently plays for the Lions, so it is not out of the question for Carson to have a shirt given to him by his buddy and former teammate. Wearing the shirt of another team does not mean that Carson would rather be traded, or that he hates Cincinnati. I know personally I that I have a pair of shorts from West Virginia that I love. I also used to wear FSU gear all the time, even to class at Wake. Did that mean I wanted to transfer and get a job with the 'Noles? Of course not. It meant that I got a free pair of shorts that were very comfortable or a shirt that was good for working out in. Assuming that the shirt is a signal that he wants out or that he doesn't care is a dumb thing to do.
Wheelhouse
It's just weird is all. Shaq wearing a Raptors jersey doesn't strike me the same way because Shaq isn't the face of the Suns, he was a hired gun and that situation is odd enough already. Carson Palmer is the golden boy of the Bengals, the first "household name" QB they've had that I can remember. He shouldn't be wearing a blue Detroit Lions shirt on TV. There's a difference between the strength coach wearing another team's gear (and he probably would have been fired) versus the number one, most visible guy on the team -- the one that the organization is building its marketing around. He can wear the shirt at home. There are certain responsibilities that come with being in the position that he's in, and representing his team is one of those. And it's certainly not representing any other team. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
klesla
Warren Sapp was wearing a Howard Carmichael jersey, not a Jaws jersey. I also believe that Carson was probably wearing the shirt as part of the scout offense. Bobby Ross used to have the scout teams for the Lions wear the authentic jerseys of the opposing team prior to playing them. Seemed a little extreme.I think you guys are taking all this WAAAAY too seriously. As previously stated, Carson has at least 1 Lions shirt from before he was a Bengal. HatManTC
i was just curious if there was a rule for this. and found it a bit wonkey too. i figured they would have rules against it being many fans are impressionable and usually want the gear the pros wear. kinda weird seeing one of your favorite players(even when he says overly retarded things about the state he plays in) in the wrong teams clothing. by RoscoeUA by gingerbreadman
