From a blurb in the Titans notes in today's edition of The Tennessean

Code blue: The Titans plan to turn LP Field into a sea of blue for the Monday night game against the Colts on Oct. 27.

There are indications the team plans to pass out light blue T-shirts to fans, who also will be encouraged to wear light blue to the game.

Details are expected to be announced next week.

This better not be an indication that they are thinking about going light blue monochrome again. That was the worst uniform in the history of the NFL. Yes, worse than the Texans' all red.

The article talks about them wearing them against the Jets and having the Jets wear their Titans throwbacks. So the Jets would be the Titans and the Titans would be the Oilers. Wow!

And to really confuse the hell out of everyone, the Titans should wear their Oilers throwbacks for their next game against the Chiefs (whenever that is), and have the Chiefs wear Dallas Texans throwbacks. So it would be the Oilers vs. the Texans, but neither team would be representing Houston.

Now that would be confusing as hell but not really....

I guess I was wrong. I had heard that Earl was cutting ties with the Tennessee franchise and didn't remember seeing his name on the ring of honor. He may be connected in some way to the Titans, but I don't think he participates much with them.

You are right. Earl Campbell has refused to have anything to do with the TN. Titans. He said so when the team moved and when it invited ex-Oilers to a ceremony celebrating the dedication of the team as the Titans.

The Titans oughta use those Avant Garde numbers if they redesign. Hot dog.

And yeah, the oil derrick is a fantastic logo. Too bad it can never be used again, because I really like it. Simple design, easy to doodle on your notebook in algebra class, easy to figure out which team it represents. Success!

**John Madden speaking**

"So right here you have what you call a complete switch of identity, you know what a switch of identity is? Ahh-gah-boo-gye-I mean haha, mean, (draws on screen) you've got Kerry Collins right here wearin an oil derrick there, You've got Brett Favre wearing some blue and old gold right here, and the funny thing is ahaha-hey-ga Brett Favre's playing for the Titans, AGAINST the Titans! Haha i mean I never thought id say that, and you know what else, Brett Favre could kill a deer with a simple fade throw, Kerry Collins could come close but Brett Favre is the guy to do it..."

As a bitter Houstonian, this whole idea makes me sick. I know Bud owns the team and can do whatever he wants, but Nashville isnt home of the Oilers. It just seems so wrong to see the team i grew up watching playing in a different city wearing the colors i still have in my closet. I own a throwback Campbell jersey and I am proud that he keeps him separate from the team. Earl and the Oilers played in houston and thats where their memories remain and should be honored. However, i know less and less people in houston give a crap about the oilers because so many new people move into houston. I was one of the few kids in my high school that actually grew up in houston. But even with the changing population of the city, we still have more claim to the team's history than the fans in nashville. I still am bitter that they finally made it to the super bowl after they left houston. i hope the texans kick their ass when they meet again and possibly ruin their perfect record.

See Colts, Indianapolis.

Once in 13 years vs. every game for 25 years. With a new team in town, you'll get over it . . . eventually.

I have to admit, I think the switch to powder blue or light blue or Oiler blue or whatever, is a really smart move for the Titans. I think San Diego dropped the ball when they opted to go with the Navy unis fulltime as opposed to their powder blue perfection unis. My only criticism of the Titans is that they wear the navy pants with the light blue jerseys. White pants complete the look so much better. Just look at the afore mentioned Houston Oilers.

Maybe they're just testing the look with the throwbacks to see if they can move away from the navy all together. Just a guess.

Is it just me or do people in places like Houston and Cleveland need to get over it? You have teams now, move on. It's not like you're Winnipeg or Quebec.

It's you.

Maybe if they moved the Bucs, changed their name and took the identity and history with them, you'd better understand.

Bingo. Most people just don't understand. It's very easy to play the legal mumbo jumbo card when it wasn't your team that was relocated. I'm in my 30's meaning the Oilers were the team I grew up with almost until I graduated college. We had season tix growing up and I vividly remember going to games dating back to the late 70's. The Texans are a new franchise and I have really embraced the team, but most of houston really has not. "Moving on" is a process that will likely take 2+ decades.

"Throwback" days are exactly that - throwing back memories to earlier days. The Oiler look was likely witnessed by less than 1% of the population in Nashville. When, or if, the Seahawks were to wear their old silver helmets with blue and green jerseys, that would MEAN something to the fans of Seattle. Same with the Bills, Chargers, etc.. What does the Oiler look mean to Nashville? It's not like the Rockets wear the green and gold of San Diego when they do throwback nights.

Lastly, I have nothing against the Titans fans in Nashville. From the two games I spent at LP Field they couldn't have been a more polite or hospitably fanbase. That's why I plan on going back each season for as long as I can. Plus, the team shop is practically the only place to purchase shirts and hats with Oiler logos.

This might be a bad analogy...but its kind of like telling a kid who's parent's have divorced to stop crying about it because now they have a step-parent and everything should be back to normal.

At least thats what I get out of it.

Considering I'm from California, I doubt it. I mean I understand that you lost the team you grew up watching, but its not like you haven't been given another option. The main thing I'm trying to say is that other places have it way worse. And hell, its not like the Oilers were really on the verge of becoming something. The Titans had one really good year still walked away disappointed. Really the success rates of the two teams look to work out to be pretty comparable.

Yo...slow up a lil' bit there, kinfolk.

I mean...I'm from the North Florida coast...but I couldn't even imagine how it'd be if the Buccaneers were to ever leave Tampa (or, for that matter, if the Jaguars uprooted from J'ville). It'd never sit right with me. And this is coming from someone who STILL hasn't let go of the old orange uniforms, and probably never will (and bear in mind my original screen name, bucco_B, was a tribute to Bucco Bruce--and the fact that my first and last initial is a "B"). So, in a way, I can sympathize with those who've had their teams, the ones they've grown up with and loved, ripped from them. As a deep and passionate sports fan, that's a super-hard pill to have to try to swallow down. Thankfully, in my case (and yours, BF56, and the rest of Buccaneer Nation), we ain't had to deal with that, but the same can't be said for fans of the Quebec Nordiques, Minnesota North Stars, and Winnipeg Jets, who all saw their teams fly south to re-establish their identities; the LA Rams, the old Cleveland Browns,--heck, even the Baltimore Colts, for the oldheads on the boards (I kid--sorta), who all switched locales (in the case of the Colts, literally a fly-by-night operation), and particularly fans of the Houston Oilers, they arent/weren't so lucky. I myself hate that the Oiler identity is now under lock-and-key. Along with the Bucco Bruce identity, it was among my favorite identities in all of sports.

This ain't to lambast you or nothing like that, kinfolk...but I think just a lil' bit more sensitivity might be needed in regards to those who've lost teams they loved...especially since we ain't yet faced what they've had to deal with. That's all I'm saying.
