World Series caps with ear flaps

My apologies if this has been discussed before, but I was wondering if anybody knew if the Rays and Phillies WS caps with the ear flaps (for the cold weather) were available for sale anywhere? They probably wouldn't be very practical to wear, but they'd make a nice keepsake from this year's WS.

I saw them online at Lids.com quite a while ago, like last Spring. I'm not sure if they still have them there or not.

I remember this discussion from last season, as I remember posting that I had seen them for sale when I traveled to Oakland in the summer of 2007. The difference between these and the one I saw for the A's is that the flap was a contrasting color when flipped-up (yellow for the A's), and I remember that some of the ones I saw online (I was thinking about getting a Cubs one) were similar - i.e., the Cubs one's flap was red...

Maybe Clint Milarchuck could buy one for the next time he goes hunting wabbits, if hunt like Fudd, you might as well look like Fudd.

Ha ha ha ha ha.

My New Era rep brought one of these to me last January and told me that New Era were trying to get MLB to use them, although at the time they had the contrasting color and MLB wanted them to be the same color as the hat. I don't know if they still ended up producing the contrasting ones as a fashion cap or not.

I bought my brother a Cubs one like that for Christmas last year. If I'm not mistaken, it was a batting practice cap (39/50? - is that what they're called?...stretchy as opposed to fitted). It didnt have any extra graphics on it, just the MLB logo on the back. I was hoping to find an Indians one, but at the time, there were only a handful of team (you would think there would be one for a Cleveland team - I mean, how many other teams had to relocate games due to snow?!?)

Yes, they did. I bought a Yankee version, with gray on the underside of the flap, last year.

I think the contrasting color thing is the only part that was goofy looking. Other than that, they are quite practical, and as we have seen, are being used in Philly. If New Era would make them for the public in standard colors, I think they would sell in cold weather climates (I would buy a Cubs one if it were all blue, as I live in northern Minnesota, and wear caps all year round, but hate stocking hats).

And yes, they were 39thirtys...

As recently as 1968, the World Series started as early as October 2nd.

But with the addition of the League Championship Series, and later the Division Series, plus the additional -- and sometimes unnecessary -- days off that have been added during the post-season, the World Series is now starting 3 weeks later and potentially stretching to the very end of the month.

In most baseball cities (with the exception of perhaps Atlanta, Florida, Texas and Southern California), the difference of even a couple of weeks can often mean a significant difference in the weather, and they are playing games in temperatures in which Alexander Cartwright did not intend baseball to be played.

As such, those ear-flap caps ought to become standard-issue from now on for the World Series. And after last night's game, they ought to also provide teams with logoed rain slickers, because apparently the World Series will now be played in weather conditions that are obviously unsuitable for baseball at any time, let alone for the sport's most important games.

Ridiculous.

Poor babies need their ears toasty warm? Awwww. So cute!

All that's needed is some logo creep and we're in business!

That's one of the reason MLB didn't want the contrasting color. They want them to look just like the actual caps, except with the extra flap. The MLB logo only appears when the flap is down and in it's usual spot (well, lowered) near the bottom of the back of the cap. No way would MLB allow any other logos or anything that's not on the regular cap on the extra flap of this cap.

Actually, I don't think that's right. I think the logo is stitched onto the flap as well as the actual cap, so it's visible up or down, as seen here
