chestnutz
So, just started watching the Southern Miss/Troy New Orleans Bowl on ESPN, and it's a color vs. color alert. Troy is the designated home team, wearing their monochrome maroon sets. SM is the away team, and they're supposed to wear their white jerseys. But the coach decided to say screw it, we're wearing are gold alternates (monochrome btw, uglyyy).Right after the kickoff, the ref penalized SM one timeout for failure to wear proper uniform equiptment.Any other instances of this? erikas | go birds | dribbble
The Imperfect
Um, those yellow jerseys are awesome. If anything they should have been allowed to start the game off with a seven point lead for being badass and wearing pure yellow jerseys. Although in that case there was a gentleman's agreement for the home team to immediately take a timeout of their own when the penalty was assessed. Red Wolf
Seems goofy to give a penalty for the yellow uniforms. They're bright as hell, and its not like you're going to mistake them from Troy's maroon jerseys. Heck, I'd have a harder time with Wake's old gold against a team in white, or UCF's old gold against white than with something like this.

You expect then to make sense? And yes, yesterday's Wake/Navy game was much harder to tell apart than this, and yet thoroughly within the confines of current uniform regulations. That hardest I've ever had was when I saw Texas at UCF (last year I think) since they both had white helmets, white pants, and pale jerseys. Also, I recall some games in which teams have worn gold uniforms against dark uniforms and I don't remember there being a penalty for it. Like, I remember seeing UAPB wearing gold at New Mexico State who wore maroon, and A Pitt/Louisville game where Louisville wore all-black, and Pitt wore all-gold (which was one of the most disgusting uniforms ever). Did Southern Miss perhaps only get penalized due to the publicity from the UCLA/USC game earlier this season?
Discrim
I remember when Southern Miss busted out vegas gold jerseys for the Humanitarian Bowl against Idaho about 10 years ago, I don't recall USM being penalized back then. The hardest I can recall off the top was Notre Dame @ GT a few years back, though I'd imagine Nevada's silver jerseys might make for a close second if I ever see em. Red Wolf
Also, wasn't the penalty supposed to be enforced as a lost timeout for each half? Because we're into the 4th quarter and Southern Miss still has all three timeouts.
