Chawls
And as fate would have it, the Bucs get their 1st win of the season wearing these. I guess they should make these their permanent alternates like the Bills and Vikes did. Quote If you hadn't noticed, Chawls loves his wrestling, whether it be real life or sim. I remember hearing about them using the lighter orange they did in 76.I heard something about that, too, but I'm not sure why you would throw back to a year when you won zero games rather than a year in which you finally went to the playoffs. Also, I may be wrong, but I don't think they even wore the orange jerseys during the regular season in '76, as they wore white at home...
hormone
I do too think the orange is too "pale" and it's weird to wear the socks that were only worn for one pre-season game. Did you see how many Bucs messed up the look with double socks to imitate multiple stripes (Talib, etc)? Also, Clifton Smith wore no socks in the first half (just long white spandex) and in the 2nd half, had socks on. Wonder if he was threatened?Anyway, as a life-long fan, I also find it ironic that they wore a winless throwback and broke a winless streak.I was glad they went all out with the field (I think both end zones said TB instead of one with Bucs). One thing I don't get is the lack of twill numbers. They are supposed to mimick their old style jersey, but that jersey didn't have the NFL shield or the Captain's C so why not make it twill? The orange is good for a game, but no where near their current set. I guess we have a few more years of these throwbacks.
njmeadowlanders
Were the numbers screen printed? It looks like the sunlight is reflecting on them as if it were in one of the photos. I can't tell. Anyone? (I would assume nowadays they're sewn on but you never know).
TBGKon
I also think the whole jersey was some kind of mesh, as the shoulder yokes were more like the base of the jersey material, rather than the dazzle material it usually is.
tBBP
I also think the whole jersey was some kind of mesh, as the shoulder yokes were more like the base of the jersey material, rather than the dazzle material it usually is.Correct, as that is the type of jerseys they wore back in those days. The Reebok authentics that were on sale earlier this year are also 100% mesh..with screenprint to boot. This is the one instance in which I didn't mind dropping $100 plus for an "authentic". Also...to clear up any confusion about the whole '76/'79 thing: these are in fact reproductions of the original '76 set. The proof's literally in the pudding...something I didn't even catch until Cwx pointed it out sometime before preseason. Check the Bucco Bruce logo on the helmets...the guy's winking upward rather than straight ahead. Also, apparently, the team did have orange striped socks that year...somewhere in this forum is an old photo of that first team, and they're all wearing them. As far as '79 goes, that was the season the Buccaneers first won a playoff game (even made it to the NFC 'ship).Also...playing in that bright Florida sun (that I miss SO dearly right about now), I think one could see why they opted to darken up the Florida orange a good bit there. (Let me also say that M&N has had that original shade of orange mostly correct for a while now...at least with their throwback caps and t-shirts, anyway.) *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||
Legend
I think the jerseys are great!I was at the game today, but I did think the numbers looked way too skinny. Is that historically accurate? It seems the actual old school jerseys I saw at the game, albeit from the 90's mainly, had regular sized numbers. It seemed they were very tall and skinny, not sure if that is how they were in 76, but it looked off to me. Facebook: CustomSportsCovers Twitter: CSCovers Quote No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms. It makes no sense to me whatsoever...
The_Admiral
'79 season, which happens to be exactly 40 years agochk yr mathThey wore the '76 throwbacks because that's what people have been demanding to see for years and the Glazers finally relented. I thought they were okay. They looked kind of pink on my television, but then again I don't have a very good television. I don't think they're THAT great, but I'm so underwhelmed with the red/black/pewter set with its silly pirate ships and football skeletons that it was a pleasant change. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
MDC
I like em. It is a tad tough to tell them apart from a team in white though. they could use some darkening.sounds like you need to update your TV to High DefTell me about it.......but the jerseys were still very pale to me,, regardless ---Owner of the NHA's Philadelphia Quakers, the UBA's Chicago Skyliners, and the CFA's Portland Beavers (2010 CFA2 Champions)---
oddball
They are lighter than the creamsicle jerseys they last wore. When Chris Berman held up his Rhonde Barber jersey I noticed that it was lighter than the last versions that they wore. I started rooting for the Bucs in '83 and these were the jerseys they wore and through all the tough times these were the jerseys. While I understand certain people's disdain for this look, to true Bucs fans, it will always be the look to us. Sure they wore a Super Bowl in the pewters, but I think if you ask any Bucs fan we've never totally accepted the pewter. It does represent the Super Bowl victory, but in our hearts we prefer the creamsicles. There are a lot of us that would search and search for anything of Tampa out here on the West Coast. The creamsicle represents those of us who are die hard fans and suffered through all those bad seasons to finally be rewarded with a Super Bowl. I kept trying to figure out if it was some jerseys, but it appeared to be all of them. And the replica ones people were wearing didn't seem to be like that. So I was a little annoyed.
