And it looks like they're closing in on Julius Peppers. I would be surprised if he leaves Chicago without a contract.

Source: Peppers and Bears come to deal.

All the NFC North teams now have great pass rushers to a lesser extent Vanden Bosch in Detroit but he can still get it done.

Schefter says its a done deal...40 mil guaranteed the 1st 3 yrs..6 yrs average 12 mil per

He is not worth that kind of money as the Bears will soon discover.

I'm wondering what my Buccaneers will do this year, if anything at all.

Historically, Tampa Bay never has been very active in free agency (except when Gruden was there and that was to acquire a bunch of retread QBs and veterans who had glory years elsewhere), and Mo-Mo's done already "made it clear" the Bucs won't be active FA players this year, either. All I know is that Kevin Mawae is sitting out there, unrestricted...and sure he may be like 59 years old, but I can't recall him missing very many games if any at all during his career...pick the guy up! Tampa could probably get him at a good price due to his "seniority", get some veteran leadership/depth on that line (you can never have enough quality depth on the line)--and If they pick him up, they'll have him and at least one other stalwart, Davin Joseph (really the only OL who's worth anything in my opinion)...then they could possibly draft/sign for some depth to help protect Josh Freeman--provided he actually grows into a decent starting QB.

Speaking of which...this upcoming draft should be interesting. Tampa actually has a good many picks this year, and should the Rams nab a QB at #1 (they shouldn't, but they probably will), either McCoy or Suh will be sitting right there. Either way it goes, through some combination of the draft and FA, The Bucs need to shore up their lines--prefereably the D line first--and WR corps. (Speaking of which...can anyone tell me exactly how Michael Clayton has managed to stick around this long...or how Micheal Spurlock keeps sneaking back onto the team??) I'd love for this team to build from the inside out, and get at least one other surefire weapon for Josh to throw to.

We'll see how this goes...

Don't worry Buc, Tampa isn't going to do a damn thing this off season, like always. I've heard that Willie Parker is on out radar. Oh yeah, Super Bowl, here we come!!!

I know man but...damn. At some point Mo-Mo and Dominik got to at least try. Do something, dammit!

(To Mo-Mo's credit, though...I will say that this team, the bunch of no-names that they are, did show some serious fight last year, particularly during the second half, so if nothing else, at least they were motivated, for the most part. What happens with that this year is anyone's guess--but, like you said, they probably won't do a damn thang.)

Alright, Baltimore, you got your receiver.

According to Adam Tankhead Schefter, Anquan Boldin is going to the Ravens--in exchange for their 3d & 4th round picks, via trade.

Awesome, glad to see the Ravens finally make the move. We should have acquired him last offseason, but it does appear that the price has gone down. Now we just need to get Mason resigned or get Kevin Walter (who they are also interested in). I'm not sure who I'd rather have. Mason has been extremely reliable and I think would be the perfect #2. However Walter is younger and would probably be better for a long term deal (or at least more than one year, which is what Mason wants).

Boldin, Mason/Walker, Clayton, Stallworth, Washington/D. Williams/Whoever is a Super Bowl receiving corps. I'm excited to see what the Ravens offense can do next season.

if they keep him healthy thats the steal of the day IMO...a 3rd and a 4th for Boldin and a 5th...I'd take that deal anyday

Aside from a lockout, there is an actually another action which can occur with the owners and NFLPA. Current veterans who are/were cut may face even more financial peril.

NFP on No Lockout

From the story:

There?s an alternative to the NFL locking out the players after the 2010 season, and it?s one that hasn?t been discussed much. Except, that is, by noted sports attorney David Cornwell, who let the cat out of the bag in a story in USA Today on Wednesday.

You recall that Cornwell was a finalist for the NFL Players Association executive director position that went to DeMaurice Smith. Cornwell suggested that the owners have still another weapon in their arsenal that isn?t quite the nuclear option that?s a lockout but is still a strong conventional weapon ? that?s to bargain to impasse and impose new work rules after an impasse is declared. The courts have consistently supported the rights of sports leagues doing just that, provided the new terms ?are reasonably comprehended within the employer?s pre-impasse proposals? -- typically the last rejected proposal. So that proposed 18-percent salary cut the owners suggested takes on new significance in this context.

NFL owners won in court on exactly this subject in Brown v. Pro Football in 1996 with regard to developmental squads, saying that the non-statutory labor exemption protected impasse rule imposition.
