JQK
Re: Predators - Congrats on the first series win I guess. Your catfish throwing, train whistle blowing, trapping, system-playing, scarppiness chaps my ass. Really does. I cry rivers for the team that has to play you (unless it's the Wings or Sharks, but even then, I cry for the good of hockey. This kind of thing can't be encouraged.)Seriously? This series had a goal scored in every single period, even overtime. Where was the trap? Where's the "bad" for hockey? WJMorris3
Has an 8 ever beaten a 1 after being down 3-0?Nope Toronto was a 2 when it came back over a 5 seeded Detroit in the 42' finals, Islanders were an 8 in 1975 but that's when the 12 seed was the lowest and Phily was a 7 last year.Chicago would be the first.Islanders came close though to doing it. As the eighth-best team in the playoffs, they lost three straight to the top-seeded Flyers, then won the next three before losing Game 7. (they beat the sixth-seeded Penguins in the quarterfinals and the seventh-seeded Rangers in the preliminary round; the bracketing was weird because it was seeded by record but all four division champions got byes to the quarterfinals, regardless of their total.) CS85
Blackhawks may lose Bickell for 3 weeks due to wrist surgery. Been reported by multiple sources but nothing from the team yet. The_Admiral
So I take it Kopecky slides in, pending his own health. Shame, Bickell really came up big this series. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Still MIGHTY
Who picks the Norris? Is it the coaches or dumbass writers?Visnovsky should have made it over Chara and there has to be someone better then Lidstrom.Yeah, Visnovsky got the short end here. And trying to be as unbiased or woe as me as possible for all y'all, here's some bare stats. Lubo led the NHL in scoring by a defenseman with 68 points (Lidstrom had 62, Weber 48, Chara 44). In the top 30 scoring defensemen, only 5 of those had a better +/- (Errhoff - 50 pts/+19, Goligoski - 46 pts/+20, Chara - 44 pts/+33, Carle - 40 pts/+30, Suter - 39 pts/+20... Other Norris nominees were Weber at +7, and Lidstrom at -2). Some might want to attribute Lubo's +/- to his partner, Toni Lydman, who finished tied for 2nd in the NHL at +32 (just +1 behind Chara's +33), and yes Lydman helped out a lot. But they are both still out there together and against the top lines of the other team, and also played most times with the Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan line. Lubo does get more time outside of this time with Lydman, however.Chara most likely made it because of his +/- and past Norris. Lidstrom got there for being #2 in scoring and his Norris legacy. Weber wasn't as stellar in either stat, but he's still one of the better impact defensemen in the league. From a defensive standpoint, Lidstrom should be knocked out, but he has that legacy that the writers will uphold. From an offensive standpoint, Chara and Weber aren't that far separated, but Chara would probably get the edge from his higher +/-. Weber deserves to be there though, so I wouldn't knock him out. I guess I understand the writers' reasoning, but as far as all-around seasons for a defensman go, Lubo should have been in over at least Lidstrom.Re: Predators - Congrats on the first series win I guess. I guess that's more of something that's been beaten into my head about the Predators, whereas it's just a group of average guys playing really hard in what's supposed to be a system oriented around defense and goaltending.Part of that is also on the Ducks defense. Lubo and Lydman looked fine. Beauchemin and Fowler good. Sbisa was a little shakier than he had been in the regular season. Lilja was terrible in the final two games of the series, which was strange after he had a fairly solid season, but I guess he finally went back to the form that left him without a team when this season. I had no faith in Sutton or Brookbank as it was, but whatever. | ANA | LAA | LAR | LAL | ASU | CSULB | USMNT | USWNT | LAFC | OCSC | MAN UTD |
The_Admiral
JQK really gets his hackles up whenever someone mentions the ills of the NZT. I can't imagine why that could possibly be. Maybe they just scored a lot of goals because Anaheim's goaltending blew. I don't think I exactly missed Nashville fielding the Globetrotters on Ice for the last seven years, you know. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
ninersdd
Hopefully, the Sharks can get it done tonight in LA. It's frustrating to let them hang around like this. They have had 3 3-0 leads in the last 4 games. Its ridiculous to surrender almost 3 and a half goals per game to a team without its best player. Last year, the Sharks let the Avalanche hang around longer then they should've, but except for one game, their offense was held under wraps pretty good. We should win, but I don't know what will happen against the Wings or Hawks. BEAR DOWN ARIZONA!2013/14 Tanks Picks Champion
CS85
Bickell now out 6-8 weeks, christ. Kopecky, if healthy, needs to be a man and step it up right away. That honestly could be a huge momentum shift away from the Blackhawks, Bickell was playing a tremendous series. Quote "You are nothing more than a small cancer on this message board.
