I've actually not watched a Pro Bowl game in like 10 years, but how embarrassing this is. I have never seen such laziness and lack of professionalism from these players. You're suppose to be All-Stars, play like one!

Like I said in different topic football is just not a game you can play at less then 100% and still look good.

The primary goal is to not get hurt and when that happens guys have to slow down. they don't fight as much for extra yardage, no big hits, no cut blocking and no killing yourself to block a field goal or punt. There's also no time to install any plays beyond the ones that every team in the NFL either knows or uses.

I don't know how you could ever expect this to be a good game.

I'll just say this. I've been to five Pro Bowls, and the game itself is never any good. It's easily the least exciting part of the whole Pro Bowl experience. But, the week leading up to the game is absolutely fantastic. Hawaii really gets the pre game festivities right, and if any of you ever get the chance to go, you won't regret it.

Yeah I would imagine something like that is probably really fun to go to. All the players are looking at this as basically a vacation so anyone there would be in a good mood. I know most bring their wives and kids with them if they have any. Probably the best time your going to have to sit down and talk to guys if you get the chance to as well.

I'm sorry but the last time I watched the Pro Bowl, defensive linemen would try and offensive linemen would block them and it was still an exhibition game. What I saw today was a friggin' embarrassment. If you don't believe me, look at these two clips. Edgerin James run from 2001 and a 1995 highlight. The '95 highlight you have to go about a 1:00 into the video, but it's actual football, not a bunch of over-paid half-asses out there who don't give a damn.

FWIW, I was at that 2001 game, and things were a LOT more relaxed today than I've ever seen them. Not sure why, but it still doesn't change the fact that the game is really pointless, but the whole package is still a blast.

BTW, you wanna see players get aggressive at the Pro Bowl, check out this hit from the late great Sean Taylor in the 2008 game.

Ok sure it was against a punter, but it happened right in front of me and it was easily the biggest hit I've ever seen live. I swear I could feel that hit from 12 rows up!

It wasn't that long ago that you had some sense that this was a competitive game. Now nobody outside of hardcore gambling addicts care about the outcome of this game (which is apparently is alot because the game still gets monster ratings believe it or not and just like I'll buy a late season MNF game between the Rams and Seahawks getting monster ratings purely because of gambling money, I'll buy it for this one as well). Everyone knows it, so why should they?

If how hard you try makes no difference in the viewing audience and you gain nothing from winning the game, I don't know how much you can really get on the players for their lack of effort. You can say they aren't taking enough pride in their work, but beyond that there's nothing else you can really knock them for. Personally I think its a terrible game and I'm not a gambling addict so I've watched maybe 20 minutes total of the game since 2000. Most years including this one I don't see any of it. I also pretty much completely forget who won and who was the MVP by the next day.

One question.

Does anyone think that the Pro Bowl should be played after the Super Bowl?

I think it should be after the Super Bowl.

I don't. I see the Pro Bowl as the lead up to the main event.

Would anyone want to see Essa Rios vs. Tazz after seeing Triple H vs. The Rock?

Yeah, I think there are two options. Play it in the rest week between divisional championships and the Super Bowl or play it as the first pre season game the next season. (Or I suppose scrap it.)

I accept that the pre season option is difficult, and as such the current system seems the best solution.

Ding ding! That's the best idea.

With that said, I went to the '76 Pro Bowl in New Orleans and did see one interesting thing: Ray Guy of the Raiders hit the hanging replay screens the Superdome had at the time with a punt. They gave him a do-over.

On another note, what's more bizarre about a guy threatening to blow up the Superdome because the Saints were beating the Lions in the playoffs - that someone would do something that stupid or that the wacko's name is...

Shawn Payton? :D

Nope, scrapping it is a dumb idea. The players love it, the fans (who are actually there) love it, and it's a great stimulus for the Hawaiian economy. Why get rid of a mostly good thing because it's not the perfect TV event?

Its never going to be scrapped as long as the game is still a big draw and it is. The game is basically on par with Monday Night Football in terms of ratings.

Can make in fun of it all you want, but somebody is watching, even if that somebody is degenerate gamblers and people who fell asleep after watching the local news.

If the players love it, why do so many of them opt out?

That's just it though, other than those who's ego's are bigger than O'ahu itself like Brett Favre and Tom Brady, not many players do routinely drop out of the Pro Bowl.

Now to make the Super Bowl all you need to do is just get hot at the right time of the year. Green Bay did it last year, the Cardinals did it three years ago, the Giants the year before that, and the Steelers two years before that. You know have five of your last Super Bowls where a team just squeaked into the playoffs (usually based on a couple late season wins) and then went on an absolute tear to get to the Super Bowl.

Translation- don't storm out of the gate early and don't start giving a crap until December.
