Norva
That would make a ton of sense, having lived not far from it the last few years I've been hearing for a long time about Batavia's financial woes, and it would be great to see some minor league ball in Ontario again. NJTank
I heard the Wilpons have been lagging on paying and helping their minor league affiliates, and it is possible the Mets who won't field a Rookie League team this year, could lose their AAA and AA teams at the end of the year, and one single A team leaving them only with Port St. Lucie and Brooklyn. With this difficulty minor league teams dont want to deal with the Mets, and they may have trouble finding replacement affiliates. Not even the McCourts :censored:ed the Dodgers up this bad. I mean come on the Wilpons are even bigger cons than their silent partner, it seems Madoffs money all went to the Mets and since he had been gone they are poorer than the Royals. Its time to force a sale. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
Gothamite
And when that happens, once it starts really affecting the team's operations, I'm confident that Selig will indeed force a sale. NJTank
HAve you looked at the Mets roster? Its affecting them. They laid off half their support staff, half their scouting staff. They cut corners on medical staff and training too. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
TBGKon
With this difficulty minor league teams dont want to deal with the Mets, and they may have trouble finding replacement affiliates. They wont have trouble finding affiliates, they'll just be stuck with the last man standing (ie. Vegas or Nashville in AAA)
sportstar1212
The Blue Jays need a new AAA affiliate. Vegas is just too far from Toronto. They should try to get a AAA team from Western NY or the Great Lakes area. Syracuse was a great affiliate.

Especially if Nassau finally gets the OK to start building the stadium. Also there is a new team coming into the indy league, which would make 9 teams, so there could be an odd team out @AlMagz
MattD1972
The same rumors that say the B-Mets are moving to Ottawa say that the Batavia Muckdogs (A New York-Penn League) are moving to Binghamton to fill the void...Would make sense, according to rumors, Batavia don't have an owner.Apparently, Batavia is operated by the folks who own the Rochester Red Wings. Don't know if they own it or are just caretakers. As a Binghamton native, this is depressing, as it feels just like the Rangers leaving after 1997 - months of denials, followed by the truth. The denials coming out of Binghamton (and Batavia, for that matter) sound hollow in the face of everything else. Better View

Brian in Boston
Apparently, Batavia is operated by the folks who own the Rochester Red Wings. Don't know if they own it or are just caretakers. The Muckdogs are owned by the non-profit Genesee County Baseball Club. The Red Wings' parent company - Rochester Community Baseball - has operated the Muckdogs on behalf of the GCBC since 2008. Since taking on day-to-day operations of the Muckdogs, Rochester Community Baseball has lost approximately $600,000. That said, RCB's contract with the GCBC calls for the Red Wings' organization to receive 5% of the eventual sale-price of the Muckdogs for every year that they've operated the team. Meaning that after the upcoming 2012 New York-Penn League season, RCB will be entitled to 25% of the Muckdogs' sale-price. I read somewhere - Ballpark Digest, perhaps - that the estimated value of the Muckdogs is around $5 million, so the Red Wings would be looking at a pay-out of approximately $1.25 million. As for the Genesee County Baseball Club's share of profits resulting from a sale, given the entity's non-profit status, all proceeds would go into a trust fund set up to establish and maintain athletic fields throughout Genesee County. nmsuaggie
I know the Tucson Padres are looking at moving. El Paso, Texas and Boise, Idaho are in the running for the team. As far as El Paso is concerned, the big problem is the current minor league stadium is not up to par for AAA baseball so there is talk of having to tear down buildings downtown to build a new stadium.
