Kane's definitely not off-base. Look what happened with Joel Ward last year.

It's not like Boston deserves all the hate. I'm sure if Ward had eliminated another team, the more unsavory elements of that team's fanbase would have made an appearance as well. The idea that hockey is the "whitest" of the North American sports is very true. There are a lot of black and Hispanic players in baseball and soccer and basketball and football both have a lot of black players, whereas the majority of hockey players come from the northern US, Canada and northern Europe. I know that those areas aren't 100% white and definitely do have diverse populations but as a result there are more white players. That's just the way it is. Hockey is the "whitest" and unfortunately I do think Kane's theory about criticism of him being racially motivated does have some merit.

Truthfully, I don't disagree. It's still a bit surprising at times to see a black player in a sea of whiteness, just because of how few there really are. I also suspect Donald Brashear's and Georges Laraque's careers haven't helped the "cause" (for lack of better term) of black's in the NHL today. It's unfortunate, obviously, but we'd be in denial if we tried to say that it doesn't still exist, if even on a subconscious level.

And, speaking of fairness or lack there-of, Boston is still regarded as one of the most racist cities in the country, beyond just the Joel Ward incident. As someone who has ties to the two markets that probably harbour Boston hate-mongering the most, the desire to make snide comments comes natural. But even I know that, as with most things, it's the vocal minority of hooligans that give the silent majority a bad reputation. I'm sure most Bruins fans were disgusted to hear about what some of their fellow fans said in the aftermath. And with good reason.

I actually at a game where Brashear and Laraque had a fight at center ice. Said fight was mostly noteworthy for Laraque kicking Brashear's ass and Pittsburgh scoring a goal just as the fight was getting underway. Never once considered the racial overtones to that one, though.

Because there were none to be considered, it was two hockey players in a fight, it has happened for over 100 years.

When a Montreal fan threw a banana at Kevin Weeks... that had racial overtone

The ignorant tweets about the Joel Ward game 7 goal... without a doubt racially motivated

Criticizing Evander Kane for flashing wads of cash during a lockout or calling out his play... not racial.

Remember when this happened?

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie

Worst possible news for Senators. Karlsson suffered lacerated Achilles tendon. Surgery required.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger

As angry as the Sens might be with Cooke, a missed call on the puck hitting mesh out of play 12 seconds before Karlsson injury can't happen.

A lacerated achilles? Holy crap. I saw him one-legging off the ice and yeah, looked pretty damned bad.

Boston is still regarded as one of the most racist cities in the country

Maybe because I'm a resident, but I could not feel more opposed to this statement.

Quite convenient of you to exclude my qualifying statement that directly preceded that.

I'm not speaking from my own opinion. I'm speaking from what I've gleaned from other people's opinions over a number of years. I can't speak for myself, because I've never been to Boston.

It's laughable that people are actually calling for a Suspension. Yeah, I get that it's Matt Cooke, but he's not that sick, is he? It was an accident.

I was at the game and it happened in the corner right in front of me. We all thought he blew his knee out because it looked like he went awkwardly into the boards. No indication Cooke meant to do it, just a freak aaccident. This does explain why Neil, who was being himself all game long, seemed to direct his output of douche to mainly Cooke late in the game.

It definitely wasn't intentional. There's no way a player could make the decision to jam his skate into the back of someone's heel in a split second. With that being said, it's a little reckless to lift your skate off the ice when you're taking a guy into the boards. I'm sure if it was any player other than Cooke there would be no talk of a suspension and to be honest I don't care if he gets suspended or not. I'm pissed about the situation but throwing the book at Cooke isn't going to bring Karlsson back any sooner. Time to start checking out the ISS player rankings. :lonely:

Holy goals Batman in DAL-CGY! 8 before the halfway point. Of course both of the goalies are backups so that helps. Lehtonen and Niemi might be the 2 goalies most critical to their teams so far this year.

6-3 Flames now.

They're honoring the 88 Winter Olympics tonight, so I guess both teams decided to play like it was the 80s.

Your "qualifying statement" was just relevant to the alleged Bruins fans calling Joel Ward insensitive names. If that's your only evidence of contemporary racism against Boston, then perhaps you might not want to regard it as one of the "most racists cities."
