Strangest Minor League Caps

Recommended Posts

I'll add my neighborhood Triple-A club to the mix, the Hillsboro Hops:

Are they AAA? For some reason I thought they were in a lower class.

Yes, typo on my part. As Brian pointed out, Short-season Single A Northwest League.

Ah, that makes sense.

Losing the Beavers would sting a little less if the suburbs had a replacement AAA club.

Still, it's an awesome set.

Im gonna have to get me the Tourists hat, too. I just LOVE their script too so I'd have to find a shirt to go with the hat.

Also, I agree with whoever it was on the last page Who said they liked having hats that nobody knows Who it is. I guess that might be one of the reasons my Hagerstown Suns cap from last season is so awesome.

This is probably a dumb question, but do all those Tourists hats glow? I would like to add that to my collection via Lids since I get a 25% discount and can get free ship.

I really dig strange MiLB caps. Something about having a cap that nobody knows about or has. I have some of the ones mentioned already. My absolute favorite is the Asheville Tourists home moon cap. I probably have some more oddball ones in my collection you guys can check out. I also have the Reading Fightins' ostrich cap that I haven't taken a photo of yet.

I'm so jealous of that New Hampshire Primaries cap.

Story B: Red Wings go undefeated and score 100 goals in every game. They also beat a team comprised of Godzilla, the ghost of Abraham Lincoln, 2 Power Rangers and Betty White. Oh, and they played in the middle of Iraq on a military base. In the sand. With no ice. Santa gave them special sand-skates that allowed them to play in shorts and t-shirts in 115 degree weather. Jesus, Zeus and Buddha watched from the sidelines and ate cotton candy.

The stadium they play in however can easily be AAA! What a beautiful ballpark!

defunct since 1996 Albany Polecats. Club was only around for 4 seasons, making it all the more strange.

Proud owner of a Polecats fitted hat. Picked it up on eBay for about $20. One of my favorite MiLB clubs as a kid...who had a strange obsession with minor league baseball cards.

god i still can't get past the Montgomery Biscuits.... Next thing you know they will have KFC night and get free chicken and biscuits

I love that hat! I have one as well as the yellow one with the biscuit beside the "M".

As far as I understand they do sell biscuits at the stadium.

Agreed DL. As someone who also lives in the Hillsboro area, I'll confirm that it's AAA-worthy.

Amenity-wise, yes. However, stadium capacity would have to be more than doubled in order to reach the Triple-A standard of 10,000. There are just a handful of Triple-A markets where exceptions to the 10,000-seat capacity have been granted - Colorado Springs (8,500), Las Vegas (9,334), Reno (9,100), Round Rock (8,688 fixed seats, but 3,000 additional berm seats available), and Tacoma (9,600).

I believe Hillsboro Ballpark's current capacity is 4,500. Just over 3,500 fans can be accommodated in fixed seating, with the balance of capacity being served by berm seating and a standing room-only section.

Sounds likely that it could be expanded to AA-size, then -- too bad there are no AA leagues even close to the Pac NW.

Syracuse Chiefs: AAA affiliate of the Washington Nationals.

I don't think I've ever seen a cap with pinstripes. Also the mascot is pretty awesome.

Yeah but that's not an on field authentic. That's a custom designed by The Clink Room. You can tell by the cork under bill.
