Super Bowl Field Database - Super Bowl LVIII

Looks like Chiefs in the left endzone, and top sideline, Buccaneers right endzone, bottom sideline:

The Buccaneers wordmark is actually smaller than what they use at home, oddly enough. Chiefs endzone and sideline exact same as last year (although, the teambox is wider, but does not look taller)

I know this is off-topic, but who's the designated "home team" for this year's Super Bowl?

Tampa Bay. The NFC is the "Home" team in "Odd" Super Bowls, AFC is home in "Even" Super Bowls.

Gotcha. For AFC it's "even" as of "odd" regular seasons (like KC was last year in the 2019 season, its SB was in early 2020). While for NFC, it's "odd" as of "even" regular seasons (like the LA Rams were in the 2018 season, its SB was in early 2019). But should there be a rule to determine endzones by relying on the designating home team format?

Correct. Odd year, even Super Bowl number for AFC, the other way around for NFC.

That was actually the case for the longest. The designated home team was on the left for like 40 years. Now it is kind of a mess and not sure how it gets determined. For the last handful of years it has been the AFC on the left.

I just noticed that too. Cuz the last time an NFC team was on the left was Carolina in SB L (I mean 50). Now the a little bit odd moment is shouldn't the Bucs had the jerseys home-team style (as of red jersey over pewter tights) while KC would be having the white jersey over red tights?

Not necessarily. The designated home team gets to choose uniform first. A few teams have chosen wearing white as the home team (Pittsburgh in SB XL, Denver in SB 50, New England in SB LII) and now TB in SB LV.

Preliminary field replication:

We will have to see what colors the teamboxes will be painted. My guess is the field here, but my hope is Chiefs red, and Buccaneers pewter. Would look much better.

So I did made my own concept of what I expect the field to look like, but it basically ended up being virtually identical to Pitt's concept, so there's no reason to post it. Just for fun, I also decided to make a couple concepts of what I would have liked to see for the game.spacer.png

As you can see, the big changes were adding the conference logos to the end zones, and swapping the Super Bowl and NFL logos, so that one big Super Bowl logo would be at the 50 and two smaller NFL logos at the 25s. I've always liked the idea of the Super Bowl logo at the 50 as opposed to the NFL logo. The other changes I made were white outlines on the team scripts in the end zone. The Chiefs one was small, one pixel wide, because I thought it looked better straight on the yellow, as can be seen on the actual field. The Buccaneers one was a lot thicker, at 3 pixels, but I think it looks much better with the white outline than it did just black on red.

This concept was largely the same as the other, with the obvious changes in end zone colors, from yellow to red for the Chiefs, and from red to pewter for the Buccaneers. I also removed the white outline from the Chiefs, and changed the Buccaneers script color from pewter to red to coincide with the change in the end zone color. I like the look of the pewter end zone for TB, actually.

I'd be interested in any feedback on my concepts, if you guys liked them or not. I've followed this thread for several years now and have always found it fun, it inspired me to start making my own fields on Photoshop.
