2011-2012 NCAA Football Uniform Thread

Lights Out

The NCAA Rules Committee determined the rules and enforcement for holding did not require players to wear gray gloves anymore.

I think the NCAA is wrong, and I predict I will be calling more holding penalties this season since the players hands may be camouflaged against their opponents jerseys.

If the gloves are required not to clash with the other teams jerseys this shouldn't be an issue. If Ohio State plays Wisconsin however I can see the issue. I guess we'll have to see what actual gloves are put out. Not just what we've seen in the NCAA 12 previews

Wait, are you an NCAA referee?

I'm a high-school (and under) referee in Massachusetts. Along with Texas (I think), we're the only two states that follow NCAA rules for high school football. The other 48 states use National Federation High School rules, which are different from the NCAA.

These rules now allow a team to wear red gloves against a team that wears red jerseys, blue gloves against blue teams, etc.

When everyone wore gray gloves, it made the infraction noticeable, and minimized.

Well I think the NCAA rule is that the colors have to match team colors, right? So If Illinois is wearing green gloves at Michigan State they'd have to take them off. I think some guys in the NFL used to do that until the NFL mandated it had to match the color of the jersey you were wearing. And originally the move to gray was supposedly a cost saving neasure since schools would have to order 2 sets of glove colors

While it wasn't, I know that some teams claimed it was cheaper to switch to grey. No clue why color changes anything but that was an excuse as well as being able to call holding

From the NCAA:

Gloves: Change to Rule 1-4-5-m, FR-36 of the 2009-10 Rule Book:

There is no restriction on the color of gloves.

Rationale: The original reason for requiring gloves to be gray in color (to be in contrast with the opponent?s jersey) is no longer justifiable under the current rules regarding players? use of hands. The committee fields numerous requests each year to allow team colors on gloves, so the membership clearly would like flexibility with this rule.

Gloves don't have to be team colors either. They just don't HAVE to be gray.

Now that Nike is making gray jerseys for all its teams, the NCAA realized that mandating gray gloves is no longer a helpful rule.

oh ,my god ,i strong recommend you to have a visit on the website ,or if i'm the president ,i would have an barceque with the anthor of the articel .

So who will be the first to wear brown gloves (i.e. the same color as a football) to give them an advantage?

BGSU

Wyoming

I'm waiting for the tools at Boise State to have the nerve to ask for a blue football to be used for home games. :suspect:

IF ONE IS CONSIDERED RACIST, THEN BOTH MUST BE CONSIDERED RACIST.

BOTTOM LINE: NEITHER ONE IS RACIST.

They have been since before the bowls (Boise wore this in their bowl game).

They are also selling a white version.

Same with the anthracite Oregon one.

It is my understanding that the new unis Boise and Oregon wore in the bowls will be their new (and the white Boise one and anthracite Oregon one will be the other sets).

+As long as they go to the regular lid or shrink the horse head and put it on both sides this will work

Agreed, but I think most have seen the white helmet with 1 giant horse by now.
