Firstly a message to Cubs fans, and I know this is gonna be scant consolation but anyway - I feel for you, I really do. Believe me when I say that I would rather have had this moment against any team besides the Cubs. You've got an exciting team filled with young talent that looks well positioned to finally do IT soon, and I hope they will.

With that said,

HOLY MOSES THE METS ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES. At the start of the season I would have been ecstatic with any kind of playoff spot, hell I was happy when they were still right there at mid-season, but this team has just gotten better and better as the year has gone on and now they have been truly awesome when it has mattered most.

2015 New York Mets, I love you so, so much.

As crazy as this sounds, I honestly would start Cueto Friday. I don't want to roll the dice in a game 7 with a shaky pitcher. I'd rather have Ventura in game 7. Ventura would have a better shot against Stroman.

KC needs to make this gamble ala Beckett '03/Kershaw last week.

Here's hoping we get a Mets/Jays series with some serious juice.

Almost hoping for the royals to win game 6 just to see your reaction.

Anyway, going into this series, I said that I'd be happy with either of these teams. I would've been happier with the Cubs, but I have relatives who are huge mets fans and I'm happy for them today. Hindsight is always 20/20, but looking back I think we should've seen this coming. You could argue the Mets have the best offense of any of the teams left because they not only hit homers but they also manufacture runs. And their pitching staff is downright insane. Even though I'm still predicting the ALCS winner will win it all, the Mets will make it interesting. Congrats to them, but also congrats to the Cubs for saluting the fans afterwards. That was a classy move.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but you are absolutely, 100% right.

Good for the Mets!

I wanted the Cubs, but I'm perfectly happy with the Mets. I hold a bit of a special place in my heart for the Mets for three reasons

A) Thy're not the Yankees

B) They beat the Dodgers (recent thing)

C) their entire visual identity is a tribute to the old Giants and Dodgers. As a fan of the Giants, and a sworn enemy of the Dodgers, I can get behind that.

Good for Tank, too. I've heard so much BS moaning about this team sucking from him, that it's nice to see them finally give him something to praise! Plus, that 06 Mets team sucked in just about every single way. It's nice to see the non Yankees style Mets team make the series.

I fully expect them to get slapped around by the Royals, but GO METS!!!

Plus, I almost always root for the NL team in the series because AL baseball sucks.

Royals & Jays through a grinder... Mets sitting waiting cooling off...

WS could be one ugly affair.

It pretty much never works this way. The last three times there was a sweep in one LCS, and a seven-game series in the other, the team that went seven in the LCS won the World Series matchup.

I'll prove it:

2006: Tigers in 4 | Cardinals in 7 --> Cardinals in 5

2007: Rockies in 4 | Red Sox in 7 -> Red Sox in 4

2012: Tigers in 4 | Giants in 7 -> Giants in 4

Royals also won their LCS in a sweep last year, and lost in the World Series. In fact, you have to go back 20 years to find a team that swept their LCS matchup and then won the World Series that followed.

--

That doesn't guarantee anything about what will happen to the Mets against either AL team, but I highly doubt the Mets are going to wipe the deck with either of them just because the AL series went longer.

I do like that whoever wins the WS will be a team that's got a starving fan base and will be grateful for the title. Now that I've had a night to kind of sleep on the heartbreak, it does help that the Cubs have a bright future. Things are pointing up in a big way.

  1. That stretch of days off after beating St. Louis killed this team's momentum.
  2. New York is too damn cold.
  3. Mets pitching is too damn good.
  4. Daniel Murphy
  5. Some guy named Duda
  6. Jason Hammel is for some reason still being trotted out by Maddon despite a 9.99999 1st inning ERA
  7. Cubs have no bullpen
  8. Cubs have a tree playing left field, but at least he hits home runs
  9. Jorge Soler is secretly terrible at baseball
  10. God is dead

or just simply the Mets outplayed the Cubs in every facet of the game.

No, that obviously can't be it. My drunk, angry, heartbroken post last night was definitely full of more logic and sense than your silly and moronic rebuttal.

Lol, they're gonna hire Dusty Baker, aren't they?

Was I the only one worrying that Dusty Baker may have been vindicated for his remarks on race and heat as Murphy and d'Arnaud crushed everything they saw while our guys were dressed for an expedition to Antarctica?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I hope they DO hire him, because that's an absolutely terrible hire. That jack wagon has cost three separate teams World Series births/titles. It'd be great to see him cough up another chance at a title with a billion dollar roster.

Dodgers and Don Mattingly "mutually part ways."

Yeah, he was totally their biggest problem.

One of those things where I'm sure a lot of what happened won't get out into the press.

Whenever a manager or coach is given a title or bust decree from the front office, that's usually code for we just don't like you and we will look to fire you the first chance we get. You would never do that to someone you were serious about wanting to keep.

For his part Mattingly has been to the playoffs three straight years and I think would be very high on a lot of teams lists looking for a new manager. I'd be surprised if he goes more then two years between now and his next job. He may even get one before the start of the 2016 season. So if he's in a position where he can say I don't need this and if that many people really want me gone and I can potentially get a better deal elsewhere, what's the point of staying?

Early rumors around the Dodgers seem to be around Dusty Baker which seems to be a bit of a strange choice to me. Opinions of him as a manager aside, he's 66 years old and not in the greatest health. The last thing I would want to do is to hire another Frank Robinson where the guy is falling asleep in the middle of a game at least once a week and I could see that happening with Dusty.

Is Dusty Baker really that much better of a manager then Don Mattingly or anyone else you could potentially bring in (Willie Randolph, Sandy Alomar, Eric Wedge) to completely negate that type of concern? Even if he does get through this year without issue, who's to say that this won't start happening next year, or the year after?

Just seems like a position not even worthwhile putting yourself in regardless of the positives that may come from it.
