They also replaced their CFO a couple months ago. This embarrassing error is probably due to high turnover within their finance department because of the new CFO and a complete lack of organization during the switchover of employees. Ridleylash
Note that the NHLPA could have filed a grievance, but actively chose not to do so, and even consider the matter resolved; That, to me, makes me think it's not something super serious. Considering Meruelo's big money-making properties are casinos, restaurants and hotels, industries being hammered by the pandemic, it's not really surprising that he's going to have a little bit of a financial squeeze at the moment. The_Admiral
Well, now that we've permanently destroyed the entire hospitality sector of this country, I foresee no additional cashflow issues. 3 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
monkeypower
Speaking about relocation, I've seen a lot more doom and gloom from corners of the internet (namely r/hockey) about the Panthers situation. There's (apparently) an out clause on the lease in 2023 and the Panthers have been (allegedly) cutting payroll in the front office/business side of the team recently. Combine that with a general history of not having any success outside of one year and continued low attendance/fan apathy and I don't know...

Add in a prime relocation market in Québec that doesn't even require any realignment to pull off...and it's an ugly, ugly picture for the Panthers. I gotta think that this is their make or break point; if they can't pull together something to draw fans back, they're probably done in South Florida. But they would move to Quebec, from Miami. They’re already in the east, and already in the Atlantic division. So they essentially would only be changing team locations, and there wouldn’t be a need to change any of the divisions. Seattle just balances out the conferences. 4 Quote "And those who know Your Name put their trust in You, for You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You." Ridleylash
The Coyotes aren't the only team struggling in the pandemic, I should note. Teams like Buffalo and Ottawa have also been taking bad hits from the goings-on; and every Canadian team but the Leafs has been slashing pay as of late. Hell, even teams like Pittsburgh are apparently planning for an internal cap. It's a league-wide issue. I know the Coyotes are apparently the easy punching bag for people because "lOl dEsErt hOcKey", but there's quite a few teams feeling the crunch. If anything, I'd be looking at poor old liver-thieving Eugene's wallet. This whole pandemic has gotta be doing a number on his finances. Sodboy13
Oh, I am of the belief that the league is going to be down to 28 teams by the time the 2022-23 season starts, and I do think Ottawa, Buffalo, and Florida are your prime candidates for getting vaporized, alongside Florida. The Coyotes are the easy punching bag because we've been discussing their persistent failures and edge-of-doom existence on this board for over 11 years. 2 Quote On 1/25/2013 at 1:53 PM, 'Atom said: For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head.
