Las Vegas NHL Expansion

Most people don't relate Flamingos with Las Vegas, just because there used to be a casino of that name is a stretch. IMO.

The Flamingo Hilton is still operational, and is the oldest casino on the strip that has its doors open.  People know the hotel's famous lights, and it's a prime spot on the strip.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

People still pushing that whole Quebec thing huh?

Probably because that team makes infinitely more sense than any aspect of this expansion.

People have different opinions but there's a reason the NHL went with Vegas and not Quebec.

The Quebec expansion thread would likely be 3 pages of people just posting uniform concepts and beating off to Nordique throwback merchandise. Not very exciting.

Also, one of the major streets in the city - and I mean MAJOR - is Flamingo Road.  Just stand at the intersection of Flamingo and Las Vegas to see what I mean.  It's literally the center of The Strip.

HOWEVER...Flamingos would be a horrible name for a professional hockey team.

All half-billion-dollar business decisions should be based on length of potential CCSLC threads, please welcome your Cincinnati WhatAreYouListeningTos

This is my point, i had no idea it was still operational. Besides naming a team after a Casino just seems cheesy.

My point is that it would only make sense and be exciting for Quebec fans. We get it, they want the Nordiques back and will likely eventually get them back. But the expansion process won't be as exciting as Vegas. When Quebec gets the Nordiques back it'll be just like Jets. Fans will be glad they have their team back but they'll just be another bottom feeder for the next decade

How many people are local sports teams supposed to excite? I don't find this ongoing Vegas gong show exciting. Is your point that smatterings of bros are now talking a big game about going to Vegas for a game? Yeah, awesome, the league needs yet another fanbase of whiny bitches whining bitchily about visiting fans like it needs a fourth lockout.

Flamingos would be alright. I mean, people said the same thing about the Pelicans and that happened.

Outside of its injured star player (who might not be good again), the franchise is basically invisible. Not a good comparison if you're rooting for NHL Las Vegas' success.

I'm not going to argue this again and start up the whole "Why does Vegas get a team and not my city".

What makes the Vegas expansion draft exciting is because we get to see a new market, a fresh brand and team built from the ground up. You get to see the entire process start over regardless of what team you are a fan of. With Quebec, it would just be announced they got a team and there it is, Nordiques are back. No build up at all.

I totally associate flamingos with Las Vegas - I don't think that name would be a stretch at all.  I can't even tell you why - I've been to LV four or five times, and don't recall seeing any flamingos, but for some reason I immediately make the association.

I don't think it would be a great name (though it's better than any of the adjective-knights options) but it could lead to amazing uniform possibilities if the owner isn't hell bent on black-gold-silver.

Speculate much? NBA teams can change it's success in a matter of one off season. I'm not comparing teams success, just the idea of having a unpopular bird name can work.

It wasn't that way for the Jets though.  Granted, there weren't a ton of options being floated around, but it was pretty dramatic when they announced it while drafting.  Plus they went in a totally different direction with their branding, so it was still really interesting.

This has train wreck written all over it, and has from the get go.

Not debating whether it's a good name or not, but there's no evidence that it's "worked".  Are they selling tons more merch since the change than they did when they first arrived as the Hornets?  Are fans behind the name?  Not sure how you can measure that.  It's like anything - if they win, it's a great name.  If they lose, it's just a dopey bird.

Agreed 100%, as far as flamingos, I'm saying it would work because it's so drastic and different from anything we've seen in sports lately. It's not an aggressive bird that fans would ideally want but it would be able to brand itself and set apart from the rest of the league.

Las Vegas Clubs

Las Vegas Golden Nuggets

Honestly it should be between Las Vegas Aces and (after spending the money or at least attempting to) Las Vegas Knights.
