LeBron is one of the greatest ever. His legacy isn't stained. End of story. If the Blazers had the Warriors roster along with the championships I would be ecstatic. All the hate be damned.

being to "7 straight finals" is kind of my point. If he played in the West would he still have done that. The Big 3 Celtics are the only thing true challenge he's had.

But put Lebron on a team in the West, does he still make 7 straight finals? If he has to go through Kobe's Lakers, Durant's OKC, The Spurs, & now The GSW?

Lebron's a Hall of Famer, no doubt. But there's also no doubt that he plays in a weaker conference

If LeBron plays out West its not like he's going to have a bunch of stiffs for a supporting cast.  I'm not inclined to write off the accomplishment because there might be fewer road bumps in the first round.

I'll give you 2011, but it's unfair to hold 2014 against him. The Spurs had a historic shooting performance that series and the better overall team. LeBron put up an efficient 28/7/4 despite being guarded by Kawhi most of the time. The Heat got very little from Wade (15/3/2) or Bosh (14/5) and pretty much nothing from the rest of the roster. There was nothing LeBron could have done to win that series. At the end of the day, it's still a team sport and the better team won.

Yeah you can DEFINITELY knock him for 2011. And I still can't believe they dropped that series because they were absolutely the better team. That was pretty much Lebron's "Not Jordan" moment, fair or not. I think it's fair.

But 2014 is harder for me to knock him for. That Spurs team probably should've won the year before, too, and pretty much singlehandedly didn't because of Lebron (the Ray Allen shot was enormous, but it was set up by Lebron basically carrying that team for large stretches against a team who had them figured out). Once they had that second series and the chance to kinda solve some of the stuff they had trouble with the first time around, there was no way Miami was beating them.

I see there being two really pivotal moments and huge turning points in Lebron's career, at least in terms of perception. 2011 and 2016. 2011 was kinda the moment where I think everyone said, oh, yeah this guy is never gonna be Jordan. He's going to be VERY good, but that clutch factor will never live up to Jordan's prowess. He had already lost two finals appearances and the second one was really without a safety net. He got absolutely BLASTED for that loss, and in a way, I think rightfully so.

Then 2016 happened. It probably won't ever recover his legacy enough to jump ahead of Jordan when it comes to being a cold blooded basketball assasin, but it was kind of the point where people started thinking that his overall body of work could still go down as more impressive than Jordan's, despite the losses. A lot of circumstances of the 2016 Finals were kind of unfortunate to absolute bull :censored:, but he still beat a team that was MUCH better than his own, and one of if not the very best teams ever assembled (I think this year's Warriors are a lot better, but record wise the 2016 squad was unmatched).

Lebron's career trajectory probably isn't exactly what he wanted. He has a lot of extra losses I'm sure he wasn't expecting and took an absolute metric ton of :censored: for it. But overall, he'll probably go down as the greatest player ever. It will be a bit more subdued and with less fanfare than Jordan for several reasons, though. But Jordan's God-like perception is pretty weird if you think about it. It's downright mythical in comparison to Lebron. It happened basically at the dawning of the Information Age and if you really compare eras, it's probably more akin to how we view Babe Ruth than how we do Lebron. In today's world where everything is so closely covered and scrutinized instantly 24 hours a day, Lebron really never even had a shot at a legacy like that.

I never really considered 2011 as a referendum on LeBron.  I think at the time it was equally interpreted as karmic vengeance/justice for 2006, in which the NBA basically gave Wade (and his approx. 700 free throw shots), Shaq, and the Heat a title at the expense of the Mavericks.

Hmm.. Little off topic, but if Lebron and Jordan are top 5, undisputed, who are the other 3? Chamberlain, Kobe and Kareem Abdul Jabbar?

Fly Eagles Fly, on the road to victory...

Philadelphia Eagles: NFL Champions in 1948, 1949, 1960, Super Bowl Champions in 2017-18. Philadelphia Phillies: World Series Champions in 1980 and 2008. Philadelphia 76ers: NBA Champions in 1966-67 and 1982-83. Philadelphia Flyers: Stanley Cup Champions in 1973-74, 1974-75

I say Russell, Kareem, and Magic. Kobe, Chamberlain and I guess Bird are top ten. I haven't watched enough old Celtics games to really appreciate Bird.

Though Kobe played twice as long in a tougher league than Magic. That should count for something.

All of us are dumb because Tim Duncan is a top 10 player. Probably top five (over Russell).

I'd go for this Top 10:

1) Jordan

2) LeBron

3) Russel

4) Kareem

5) Bird

6) Magic

7) Wilt

8) Kobe

9) Shaq

AND (gonna get a lot of hate/confusion on this)

10) Stockton. Why Stockton? In 13 years, he tallied 2,000 more assists than second place Kidd. 2000!!!! I did the math, and 15,806 (the amount of assists he got) divided by 13 years in the league is almost 832 assists per year. Obviously, he didn't do this on a consistent rate, but that is an insane number even without counting in his decline at the end of his career (which means he had to have got more during his prime). It really is a shame he had to play during Jordan's time to keep him and Malone from getting any rings - the Jazz would have been a three-peat of their own, IMO, if not for Jordan's Bulls.

Also, honorable mentions for Duncan, West, Robertson, Hakeem, and Cousy, who I all had reasons to take #10. (Duncan was hard - I was planning on placing him much higher, but I kept thinking of players to knock him down, before he was off the top 10)

I still can't see how Wilt isn't always much higher than he is. The dude was basically the Babe Ruth of basketball.

I mean, just look at this:

Quote

Only four players have scored 60 or more points on more than one occasion: Wilt Chamberlain (32 times), Kobe Bryant (6 times), Michael Jordan (5 times), and Elgin Baylor (4 times).

Also, great game tonight.

I knew I was forgetting a name. Tim would be above the 5 I posted as my 11 through 15. But seriously, Havlicek is super underrated amongst elite players. His longevity, play style, speed & the fact he owns most Boston Celtic records makes him very worthy of a top 15 spot.

Cavaliers have to be perfect or close to it in order to have a chance, but we just aren't meeting those levels.

Yeah, this is a damn near copy of game 1 and 2. Keeping it close, but already starting to show signs of wear.

That final play by the Cavaliers in the third quarter....LeBron only dribbled the ball once between the center line and the point where he shot the ball, which was inside the free-throw line.  He managed to travel a distance of at least 33-34 feet with the ball only touching the ground once.  How the hell is that not traveling?
