Lol, what an absolute joke the Eastern Conference is. Not that anyone is surprised by this, but this year’s finals is going to be an absolute bloodbath.

I am very much with you.  As fun as the NCAA tournament is it’s a terrible way to crown a champion.  I think the randomness of hockey is enough that the integrity of the championship would be well-served if they cut the number of postseason teams in half.

But most fans, particularly the casual ones leagues want to attract in the postseason don’t get to hung up on the integrity of the title race.  I think this is something that the NHL could try to exploit.

maybe every league's different? past playoffs ratings seem to imply casual nba fans don't love cinderellas and small markets as much as the internet and general sports chatter would suggest and i genuinely think a Jazz vs. Pacers finals, for instance, would have been nightmare scenario for everyone outside of Utah and Indiana.

That's me right there.  I'm not going to watch an NBA game unless

1) the Sixers are in it (and even then, it's only a 50/50 shot) or

2) Some generational superstar, like a Jordan, Magic, Lebron, maybe Kobe or a dominant Lakers team or something like that.

The Spurs were terrible.  As a guy that doesn't care much for the actual sport of basketball, I had zero interest in watching San Antonio.  They weren't flashy, and San Antonio just doesn't have the cache that some of the other cities do.

Huh. Playing Shinsuke Nakamura's music at the Q. Someone's gonna get it in the balls.

EDIT: Or James will pop Marcus Smart in the mush again. Boston's going to be so pissed...whenever game 5 is. Next Thursday or something?

Celtics have no one to blame but themselves for that loss. They laid down in the 1st quarter and they killed their own rallies by not boxing out and taking terrible early shots. Really poor basketball. Stevens needs to knock their heads together. Then again he hasn't had anyone in the right place on defense since game 2 so he's not doing so hot either.

The Lakers were great (and fun to watch) in the 80's, but I got sick of that team after awhile. Their 2000-02 title winners had zero appeal, though. To me, they were almost as annoying as today's Cavs. They had two players (Shaq and Kobe) and a bunch of stiffs.

I won't hear you impugn Big Shot Rob.

No, because they actually played defense.

It's the NBA - people go to watch the stars, and the Lakers had two of the biggest in the game.  Shaq alone was worth the price of a ticket, let alone young Kobe.  Eddie Jones was no slouch either, though obviously nobody was buying a ticket to see him play.

I don't care. I know that the casual fan just looks at the stars, but their team was a disgrace to professional sports. They only won their titles because of chokers (2000 Portland and 02 Sacramento) and referee assistance.

To me, he'll always be the prick who checked Steve Nash into the side 11 years ago. He's garbage.

But the difference is the Cavs only have Lebron and a bunch of stiffs. Watching a guy so dominant is just fun to watch.

Excellent!
