The_Admiral
Toews is low-key a pretty left-wing guy (oddly enough, so was, of all people, Suburban Dad Hero Kyle Orton), so I wonder if maybe he doesn't want to admit to having contracted covid, which, at least in the United States, is understood as a singular failure of personal responsibility not unlike AIDS was*. Was he not wearing a mask? Was he going where he was not supposed to go? Who else could he have infected through his reckless behavior? Of course, he could have done everything correctly and gotten it anyway, which seems to happen all the time, but maybe he feels particular tribal pressure not to admit to it. * That one public health official is a single red thread linking the AIDS epidemic, the coronavirus epidemic, and reductive notions of personal responsibility is interesting. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

AustinFromBoston
That a pretty big surprise. All signs pointed to Chara either retiring or giving it one more year in Boston. Also shocked another team was willing to pay him. Shame it had to end this, but also probably for the best. Clearly Bruins want to focus on their young guys. (But they wouldn’t pay Torey Krug, WTF?) Brass
Bruins wouldn't match $795,000 for Chara because they want to see how the younger guys play, yet they paid Kevan Miller $1,250,000 a year to waste a roster spot for half the season before spending the rest on the DL? Don't understand that... On 4/10/2017 at 3:05 PM, Rollins Man said: what the hell is ccslc?
Brass
I guess the positive here is that Patrice Bergeron will be the new captain of the Boston Bruins. On 4/10/2017 at 3:05 PM, Rollins Man said: what the hell is ccslc?

Don't understand that... This makes no sense to me. It's so odd how this whole thing went down. I totally understand letting Krug walk and think that was the right move, but this one just doesn't add up given the 1.25 for a solid player who... doesn't play. Chara was by no means an elite defensive guy who could chew minutes anymore, and most times he was a liability with the puck. BUT he's a great leader and given our young D core, he's the perfect guy to keep in the lockerroom and play bottom pair minutes.
Digby
I’m purely a local townie in my hockey fandom so set me straight if I’m missing something, but if the cost for another year of Chara is that low, why not just do it? I don’t get the sense he’d be upset even to be knocked down a line or take a pay cut. Seems worth it for the cost of goodwill. But, Jacobs. AustinFromBoston
https://www.nhl.com/news/capitals-zdeno-chara-has-more-to-give/c-319926900 From what he's said, it seems like Bruins did make him an offer, but they weren't guaranteeing him a lineup spot, since they want to focus on giving their younger players a chance. He still feels like he has "a lot left in the tank" so he chose DC, where he would have a bigger role to play. Curious to see how Capitals will use him. FiddySicks
People in Lake Tahoe have been pushing hard for a Sharks outdoor game for around a decade now. There are a ton of fans in that area, and the Sharks used to do their conditioning training in South Lake Tahoe. Looks like we finally got an outdoor game! Yay!... Wait, hold on a second, what is this absolute :censored:ing bull :censored:?!?! I :censored:ing HATE HATE HATE this league. Stay the away, you clown ass sports organization. Take your Vegas bull and play it in a wheat field in North Dakota or something. We don’t want you. Or the :censored:ing Avs. I’ve been looking forward to a Sharks outdoor game in Tahoe for so long now, and they’re really gonna do us all like this? I hope this league :censored:ing dies. FiddySicks
Then why bother even having it? This whole thing is so stupid. They’re going to ruin our first ever outdoor game. Both the league and the city are idiots for doing it this way. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) DEAD!
Couldn't the league have waited for Seattle to play? You would have San Jose, Seattle, Vegas and Colorado at such an event. Or just for kicks, go to Squaw Valley. I saw, I came, I left.

There have been a few pretty interesting plans to play a game at Squaw (which is probably changing its name soon, interestingly), but I just don’t see the logistics right now. I guess Truckee could handle the inflow, but the whole event would be so much better in South Lake Tahoe. The location they picked is a dream come true for me, because it’s right in the middle of my direct community. But that’s what’s so frustrating. The entire town, minus the sliver where the casinos are, is in California and the community are Sharks fans. The thing about that area is of you want something to stick, you really have to land it correctly the first time. If not, the community is going to complain about the inconvenience and it’ll go away again. They have such a great opportunity to do something really cool up there that could foster a passion for the sport for years and be sort of an annual thing for them. But instead, the whole thing is probably going to be one huge wet fart, a total logistical nightmare, and will go away after a year. And there goes the shot at having those kind of events there again in the future. tl;dr: I’m dumb for thinking the NHL and my home town could make a good, not totally frustrating decision for once. SFGiants58
You gotta blame the Sharks a little for that - they never lobby for the outdoor games after that Stadium Series match six years ago. This team has the brainpower of a concussed Ovis aries. “Baah! Let’s sign Marleau back and keep Thornton prisoner!
