Roomies to wear MLB debut patches

Two things:

1) This is SUPER wack. Like, one of the lamest things I think I’ve ever seen 🤦🏼‍♂️

2) This is essentially just another jersey ad they’re cramming onto the uniforms.

To honor their debut as Roommates?🤨

I hate autocorrect. I changed the article because the first one was paywalled and, ew.

Yeah, each team has something similar. They're not based on City Connect, but some do seem to carry on the same visual language of certain City Connect uniforms. (White Sox, Astros)

Here's the rest of them.

I know it is a nod to the Green Monster but I find it interesting that the Red Sox version

This is why I didn't like the captain's C that some players began wearing.

Color leak or fashion jersey? (I hope the latter)

edit: thought it was a jersey at first, but now think it’s a CC sweatshirt

Looks like a crew neck sweatshirt rather than a fashion jersey, but it could be indicative of the City Connect colors. The thread on the sleeve logo looks like it's iridescent and changes color depending on how the light hits it.

Ok so I know we sort of went over some of this already, but I keep seeing all of these Marlins photo shoots for their 93 throwbacks and they’re all wearing the old caps. It seems strange that they would just bust a bunch of those out of storage for a photo shoot, but they’re not going to actually wear those old caps in games, are they? I know that New Era has had some issues producing that old teal color in the past, but it would be straight up wild if they just pulled a bunch of stock from the early 90s out for them to wear. I’m not sure if that’s the coolest thing I’ve ever seen, or just the cheapest.

This tracks for the City Connect. The socks had a bunch of blotches in pastel colors.

It also looks like the front of the sweatshirt says "BALTIMORE" in a block font, with each letter alternating between blue, orange, yellow and pink. Makes me wonder how they utilize the purple-ish hues from the leak.

I don't understand the hate for the debut patches. I actually think it's really cool. Like watching highlights years from now of future star players it'll be cool to see.

The trading card aspect of it is dumb but who really cares.

The thing I don’t like about it is that it’s monetizing every aspect of the uniforms. It’s their right do so, no doubt. But it feels like such a shameless cash grab. It’s really disappointing to see from a league that spent so many years having tight restrictions on uniform details specifically to prevent that kind of crap.

It’s one of the things that bothers me about baseball the most, actually. They’ve been so snooty and up their own asses about “tradition” and “unwritten rules” to the point where it’s been kind of off putting, in a way. Now it sort of feels like they took those principles and just tossed them out the window for a few extra bucks. It’s like there was zero value to all of the time and effort they wasted policing that stuff for so long. It makes some of what Major League Baseball is doing hard to take at all serious.

That’s just my feeling, anyway.

I mean I get that. I just don't think this is it. It's an MLB logo with the word debut under it. To me it just commemorates a special occasion, like a World Series patch on a smaller scale. What they do with the patch later doesn't really matter to me. If they had put a Fanatics or Topps logo on the patch, then I'd totally agree.

I have no objection to the monetising.  What I don't like is the visual clutter.  I know that this patch is small; but in addition to the wholly inappropriate ad patch, these things start to add up.

Yes, but the World Series patch is also a source of unnecessary clutter.

Well, I mean they’re going to take the pitch off after, cut it up, throw it on card stock and immediately try to sell it for hundreds of dollars. It feels really beneath Major League Baseball. Well, beneath what the league always told us was beneath them. It just feels like a lack of principles, and sort of hypocritical. Like, we used to see some guys wear the same hat for years on end. I think there was sort of something sacred to that, in a way. Now all of this just feels like it’s a dime a dozen. It feels like they’re trying to dilute the “game used” market just as much as they did the trading card market back in the 1990s. Ultimately it’s just going to devalue their product with over saturation. It’s like those books of Griffey rookie cards people thought were going to be worth thousands of dollars. Now though, due to how many they made with the idea of “this is going to be valuable some day!”, that same booklet is worth, like, $80. It just feels like they forgot all about the importance of scarcity when it comes to value.
