Because I suppose a hard-working everyday commoner neighborhood like, say, Pigtown wasn't colorful enough...?

(Used to spend a lot of time there...)

The company I work for used to have their offices there, closer to M&T Stadium, that place was a fun area at one point. Loved the Cross Street Market and all the bars and restaurants that were there. Crossbar is still there, and its one of my favorite places.

I don’t like the Astros current look and absolutely HATE the generic looking clip art star and H combo they use. By far one of the most boring looks in the entire league. But when they first released the current set, I was really hoping the Astros were going to embrace orange more and use it in a similar fashion to how the Cardinals and/or Phillies used red. But instead they used it only a handful of times and reverted back to the boring navy caps instead.

Yes. From 2013 to 2015.  In 2013 and 2014 it was worn for as a home day game cap if they were wearing their white uniform. It must have fallen out of favor with the players by 2015 as it was only worn 5 times that year. 4 times in the first 2 months then it made a final appearance in august.

As @FiddySicks said above, this should be the primary look for the Astros. Really wish that orange-based look stuck around.

The initial look from 2013 at the time of unveiling gave us hope!

But then they went heavy on the navy 😔

I disagree. The navy cap was always going to be the primary, especially since it features the logo in the same colors as the primary logo. Also, the navy cap has a slight edge over the orange cap from 1965 through 1993 as the primary cap of choice when the H-star was previously the primary logo.  At least they wear the orange jersey fairly often so there is still plenty of orange featured. I do prefer an orange cap with the home whites though as it is a more balanced look.

Astros primary cap history:

1965-1970: navy

1971-1982: orange (navy caps worn on the road from 80-82)

1983-1993: navy

1994 they switched to the navy and gold identity.

There's no denying the navy caps have been worn more than the orange caps historically, but that doesn't mean it's the better option. I'd love to see orange caps at home and navy caps on the road.

I genuinely miss the orange cap/undershirt look for the Astros.

That was at the time they had laid out a hyper specific schedule for their uniforms (I think it was orange jerseys on Friday, orange caps on Saturdays, and tequila sunrise panel navy jersey on Sundays).

Very unique and gone too soon.

I don't think it's the H-star logo that makes this look boring. It's the lifeless, arced type used across the front of the headspooned jerseys that drag the look down. It's as if someone designed these after watching that Bad News Bears sequel where they played in the Astrodome: Bad News Bears jersey + Astros hat.

I was glad when they want back to the H-star and navy/orange look, but they should have really been the first franchise to go the San Diego / Minnesota route in bringing the past forward into a new era. Better wordmarks and typefaces for the H and the jerseys could have avoided the general boredom I feel with their look.

I think you're confusing Pigtown with Federal Hill.

Replace "navy" with black and I see parallels with a certain NL team...

I remember when they debuted this look a year after the Astros did and being slightly annoyed there would be two teams fighting over the orange cap look. Little did I know just how quickly both would abandon them.

The orange Marlins color scheme debuted in 2012, the year before the Astros in 2013.

I think it’s both. I know there’s a like for the H star logo from a lot of people, but I’ll personally never understand it. Both of the open ended stars were miles better IMO. The H star logo is probably bottom five for me an any league. I hate it.

They look nice here but it also looks almost post-processed to me. I found the orange-heavy looks of the modern Astros ever to look kinda dingy, oftentimes... an awkward halfway between bright vibrant orange and UT burnt orange, I guess? Tough when you play in a dome most of the time.

These ads are disgusting

Other than the ads, the Marlins uniforms are just unbelievably awesome.  Make them a full time alt like the Rays did with the Devil Rays set.

We need to get a grab of Jorge Soler's jersey...the fish patch is all kind of jacked up (and it may be the case on all of them). The team patch on the sleeves is nearly upside down.
