I know I'm being Unfair to LeBron, but a lot of the NBA uniform weirdness we have now lies right at the feet of the mid-2000s Cavaliers, who, rather than using LeBron to elevate the team's brand for the long term, went for short-term gains by creating as many LeBron jerseys to sell as they could with the CavFanatic mashups. I don't think the NFL has fallen to point-and-click recolors yet, but they will.

You mean mid-2010s? I just remember the Cavs in LeBron’s first stint wearing navy blue a lot, in addition to white and (wine) red, all with metallic gold trim. I really liked those uniforms, by the way, and to this day consider them the Cavs’ best-ever look.

home, road, navy alt, yellow throwback, orange throwback, blue throwback, wine/gold recolor of the orange throwback, red/yellow/blue recolor of the yellow throwback, might have forgotten one or two

Listen, I don’t hate this, but what’s killing me is how whoever or whatever made this, they/it went through the trouble of giving all the background players the correct socks, but not the main focus player

It's AI, it doesn't know how to focus.

You have a point, but the CavFanatic program started in 2008-09, which by that time there had already been special uniforms around the league for preseason games in Europe, "Latin Nights," St. Patrick's Day, etc.

Wow. I didn’t know it started that long ago. I remember thinking at the time that it was a pretty cool thing, mashing up the color schemes and logos of different eras. It worked for the Cavs because they have had so many different styles in their history.

Honestly, if it had remained true to the original spirit (stylistic mashups from a team’s history), it wouldn’t have been that bad for the league as a whole. Then teams started wearing non-team colors, then the City Connect goofiness started.

The first CavFanatic uniform I remember was the old feather-script Cavaliers jersey in kindergarten-fingerpaint red, yellow, and blue, which I don't recall ever being a color scheme of theirs, so even then they weren't really mashing up so much as making up.

AI amazes me making such a beautiful and realistic picture, but I’ve seen they have the tendency to add extra fingers and stuff like whatever number the guy on the far right is wearing. Anyway, I don’t think the bears need a helmet other than navy, but I think I’d take the all white look over the orange gear…although I didn’t mind the orange jersey only for a game. The extra helmet just doesn’t execute well in a game setting.

I like their orange jersey, and it has historical precedent, doesn’t it? I feel like they wore orange at some point in the early years. But the orange helmet is absolutely wrong. The navy wishbone-C with a white outline against an orange helmet doesn’t translate well at all.

It was wine & gold but with a brighter, more royal blue. Felt like a mashup of the original colors & look with the original Cavs blue from the 80s/90s. Looking at pictures though, seems a bit lighter than even those Mark Price era blues.

The original CavFanatic jersey:

The following season's CavFanatic  was a less confusing mash-up:

This was just posted on the week-by-week thread, but the red helmet with the navy color rush, along with the tweet containing emojis in a significantly lighter shade of blue, must be hinting at something.

Edit: it has been brought to my attention that that is just the standard blue emoji.

I'm intrigued, but I'm not sure if I like it as is. Red socks would make that a really solid combo. Maybe not the best option for the Texans, but a good look nonetheless. Would still be interested in seeing the red helmets with the typical navy jerseys and white pants, could look really nice.

Why didn't they label a uniform element as prominent as that performance skirt?

I absolutely do not understand why the league allows that. They put so much time and effort into regulating so many different parts of how a player wears the uniform, yet still allow them to look like mom made them wear a sweatshirt under their pads at Pop Warner practice in October.
