Iowa will face UConn in the Final Four. Geno’s got that machine running well as ever now that everyone’s healthy. I could see Bueckers matching Clark’s energy in a scoring duel.

Don’t know if I’d call them healthy.  They have six players out for the season with injuries. They’ve looked spent at the end of their last two games because they only play seven, iirc. They’ve had some :censored:ty injury the luck the last handful of years, but at least Bueckers is healthy this season.

Either way, the year ends in a 4 which means UConn’s winning the Men’s and Women’s tournaments, as they did in ‘04 and ‘14.

Wow. My March-only eyes missed that completely, I only knew that Bueckers was back after missing last year.

They were so much more poised at the end of the game than USC, must have fooled me.

So the post game press conference from the LSU Women was interesting.  It was more of how good a person Angel Reese is and all of the off the field criticism she went through.  When LSU won the title last year, Reese pointed to her ring finger, which somehow garnered outrage, but when the recently retired Rams DE Aaron Donald did the same thing after the Rams Super Bowl win, nobody batted an eye.

Angel Reese doesn't deserve the hate.

It's the unfortunate circumstances of the double standard. When she made that gesture last year, I just knew people were going to find a way to bash her for it. It's worth noting that Clark was doing roughly the same thing in her previous games during that tournament though.

Reese made a comment during her postgame last year about trying to represent all of the girls out there who experience the disparity of racism and stereotyping, and that made me like her even more. I hope she has a great career in the WNBA.

For the record, the chef’s kiss of the Iowa/LSU game was that the PA announcer sounded like the reincarnation of Howard Finkel.

I’m not usually in the sports are rigged camp but that ticky tack call against UConn to pretty much seal the deal and get  the golden goose into the championship game is sketchy as :censored:.

Incredible game marred by an all-time horror of a call. The conspiracy theorists were looking for any reason since Monday, and they could not have crafted a better one on their own.

I don’t think it should have been called, but I get why they called it.

UConn also played pretty bad in the second half, I was surprised they wound up with a chance to win it.

Still, at the end of the day, I just think it’d have been cooler if it wasn’t called (even if I don’t see that UConn possession going anywhere)

I think it's pretty telling that many people initially (and still did) picked South Carolina over the field. There really wasn't a single school in this tournament that was beating them, as great as Caitlin Clark was. Simply keeping within ten points against the Gamecocks was a daunting task in of itself.

I have to say though, this was probably the greatest coaching performance I've ever seen in college sports. Losing your entire starting lineup to the draft last season and Dawn Staley still delivered. Absolute legend.

She blew her legacy in high school when she wasn’t as good as Paige Bueckers.

Wasn't Bueckers suppose to be the generational all-time great that Clark became? Not trying to downplay how great of a player she is or anything because she's still tremendous and the injuries did knock here down a peg for a season or two. Bueckers still has a chance to do what Clark wasn't able to do next season, but obviously Dawn Staley and that juggernaut of a SC team isn't going anywhere.

South Carolina is the new UCONN.

Not yet. They need to keep it up and win about four more titles minimum to get that label. 😎

UConn should be really good next year with Bueckers coming back and a pretty stacked class coming in.  Plus not being decimated by injuries, hopefully.

Unrelated but I’ve seen some rumors Cal is leaving Kentucky for Arkansas.

Watching (sorta, not really interested/ invested in either team) the NCAA championship with my daughter, discussing the venue, which led to a discussion on how,  with Final Fours only going to domed stadiums, there are a limited number of (only a dozen)  venues available that fit that bill:

By our count:

1. Las Vegas

2. Phoenix

3. Dallas

4. San Antonio

5. Houston

6. New Orleans

7. St. Louis

8. Minneapolis

9. Indianapolis

10. Detroit

11. Atlanta

12. (in a few years) Nashville.

Now, in the past there was one at Tropicana Field, a domed baseball stadium, but that won't happen again.  Due to viewing angles, there were only a little over 40,000 tickets sold (About half those sold to football venues).

As SoFi is a roofed, yet open-air facility, I don't see them getting one.  And while Syracuse has a domed stadium, their capacity is too small and the city is not a attractive major destination.

Am I missing any?

It is what it is.
