Each school will receive a certain amount of payout money that depends on the “tier” a team lands in. That means the Irish will finish next season on both coasts — Notre Dame plays at USC a week later — while also making two trips to the New York area. Notre Dame also knows the worst they can finish us 11-1 to be considered for the playoffs. And even then, it might not be enough with their 2024 schedule. There was 2020 (or 2021?) where they got curb-stomped in the ACC Championship game by Clemson and got in over a more deserving Texas A&M team. What about Oklahoma? They haven't made it past the semifinals in their four trips to the playoffs, and two of them weren't even close. Only one of those times did they lose to the eventual Champions. Notre Dame lost to the eventual champions both times, and the teams that lost in those championships lost by even bigger margins than Notre Dame did. Their 3 biggest home games are with Wisconsin, Ohio State & Illinois.
