2024 NFL Season Through Super Bowl LIX

Anyway, we should keep an eye on the Panthers, because while I don't think they're going winless, they're going to find some other creative ways to get into the ass end of the record books. Think Dan Orlovsky backing up out of his own endzone, or Seahawks-Bears Oops All Punts. There should be at least two "hunh, never seen that" displays of incompetence from that team.

I guess the good news is that if/when Brady becomes part owner of the Raiders, the restrictions placed on him will make him want to quit, or have FOX demote him (if that's allowed per his deal) which would lead to him quitting.

I'm not sure the financial benefit of being part owner of the Raiders - I assume that's more long-term growth and not liquid cash like a salary is - but I would assume that there's some analysis of break-even between quitting FOX and the appreciation of his equity in the team, but I'm not sure if the stake he's pursuing would would be enough to warrant stepping away from the 10/375 from FOX, despite the rampant growth in team values.

Those restrictions are already in place.

Cutting down on the football I watch this year by not having Red Zone, so the intake was a little lower than usual.

But presented with EXTREME bias....

The Bucs looked incredible yesterday against the Football Team. Yeah, obviously they weren't world beaters of an opponent. But Baker Mayfield went 24/30, a shade under 300 yards, and 4 touchdowns. They scored their first 5 drives of the season. Mike Evans had 2 TDs, and Godwin and our rookie WR out of Washington had one each. The running game was active and effective after consecutive dead lasts in yards. The OL was addressed in R1, and kept Baker on his feet the whole game and opened up the gaps needed for that to happen.

The Defense kept Jayden Daniels (who looked fine, more athletic than anything) on his toes and caused him to scramble with how much the pocket collapsed. The biggest red flag is the thin DB core having an injury before the Lions game. I feel like that game will be really close, but I think it's hard not to feel optimistic after everyone was talking up the Falcons all offseason.

Meanwhile in Tampa...

I've seen my team make plenty of dumb decisions, and the Browns getting rid of Mayfield for Watson is one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen. The Browns were at least fun to watch when Baker was there, and had they gotten a line to protect him, maybe he'd have done for the Browns what he did for Tampa Bay yesterday.

Caleb Williams is getting bailed out pretty hardcore by the defense right now. I understand why Bears fans are sweet on the young man, but they really should've watered down all that Hard Knocks Flavor Aid and let him prove the offense is capable of more, instead of anointing the Bears division champs before the season even started.

It would be pretty funny if the Bears got their "generational quarterback" but still, same as it ever was, win 12 games on the scoring of their defense and special teams. That was a 2006 Bears game yesterday.

Got it.  I'm not sure how he can do his job effectively.   I'm sure FOX isn't too happy about it.  There should be a way to get out of the deal.  Nobody (or at least not many) is watching a game because Brady is announcing.  They're watching it because it's an NFL football game, and given it's the A team, probably an important one.

Brady was awful. A lot of people are saying it was just first game jitters, but if that were the case he would have been fumbling his way through with occasional great analysis. That ain't what happened. I didn't hear him say anything that made me think he'll be good at this once he gets the hang of things. Talking into a microphone is easy. Being good at broadcasting is hard.

If he can't watch practices or attend production meetings, then it's basically just having a guy come off the street to call games, if the guy off the street has had his face surgically transformed into a triangle for some reason.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I kinda doubt any of the color analysts are watching both teams practice every week. Production meetings are cotton candy, you're not going to get anything of substance out of one.  With his experience, Brady should be able to come in off the street and do a solid job. Even with all his prep, he still managed to sound like a sophomore at Syracuse doing his first broadcasting assignment.

Not all of the practices, but you see some walkthrough stuff that involves possible trick plays and get to see some semblance of a game plan.

I was under the impression that there was a big difference in the amount of prep between, say, baseball on an RSN and an NFL game, such that to not go over notes and tape would put someone at a pretty big disadvantage, especially when you're doing what's probably the most-watched game of each week. You're not with one team, it's not day-in-day-out, and football is by far the most sophisticated telecast to put on. I guess they can Cyrano de Bergerac him through the games once they're going on, but combined with Brady's inherent vapidity, what is Fox paying for?

My guess is watching tape is where they do the bulk of the prep work. It also makes the most sense logistically. Watching a walk through is probably just this side of attending a production meeting.

Aaron Rodgers is probably going to keep the Jets in more games than they should be in, but I don’t see them making much noise. That defense looks ATROCIOUS.

Niners look angry, too. Gonna be a problem for basically everyone.

There's nothing better than Aaron Rodgers looking sad on the sideline because he's old and he stinks.

Tyrod Taylor is better than Aaron Rodgers and I hope he gets a chance to lead the team.
