FiddySicks
i was watching an old tape i found of sportscenter. its pretty cool to watch old spotrscenters, but the thing after sportscenter is what interested me. it was a tape of the old roller hockey league Pro Beach Hockey! anyone remember the PBH, you know, a roller hockey rink built on the beach in Huntington Beach, CA. and the walls were built like an X games vert ramp. and they had team names like the express, salsa, heavy metal, and im sure a few others. Evan
i use to watch that during summer vacation...I enjoyed the league. Didn't Chris Chelios's brother play in that league? Or perhaps im just making up pleasantries subconsciously. I do remember liking the gargoyles and disliking the dawg pac for some odd reason. slapshot
I remember watching a fw matches here and there, it was on a few summers ago. There might have been a former NHL players or two in that league, bit it seemed really hokey...inclined court behind the nets, dual scoring zones. It didn't seem like real hockey, just like a sport dumbed down for the beach community. And all teams played at the same rink, it was like watching roller derby. Puckguy14
Anyone remember the precursor to PBH, the WRHL? It was in 1993 on ESPN at the Disney MGM Studios. I believe Ron Duguay played for the Xpress at the time. The play by play announcer had the ESPN2 thing going by referring to slap shots as "Thunder Boomers". I think there were other names like Aztecs, eXpress, there were others and they had the ultra cool 1990's full printed jersey shirts. If I recall, the PBH logo was the same as the WRHL. Puckguy14
I think it was their first game, and they played on blue astroturf? After a rain delay they changed it to sportcourt.
