First off, welcome here.

Secondly, first impressions are very important. You should know that it's bad form to use Caps Lock on a message board.

You seem eager to get involved, but maybe take some time to see how this place works, so you can make a good first impression.

Three reasons why I don't think the Pats will do it:

1. nobody has won 3 Super Bowls in a row (although Lombardi's Packers probably would have done it had the Super Bowl been around a year earlier - they did win 3-straight NFL Championships)

2. they lost both coordinators

3. no Tedi Bruschi

1- So what? Just because it's never been done doesn't mean it won't happen. Remember the Red Sox last season?

2- So what? As long as Bill Belichick and the Patriots FO hire competent coordinators, they'll be fine. Yes, losing both Charlie Weis and Romeo Crennel was tough, but the Patriots have lost personnel before and things turned out just fine.

Which brings me to:

3- So what? The Patriots have built their team around just that: a team philosophy. You lose a player, there's someone there to fill the void. Remember that patchwork secondary that shut down everybody in the playoffs last season?

Take off the Colts-colored glasses. Please. The only way the Colts win anything is if they find out how to play defense, and until they do they're just a good team that can't get it done in a big spot.

As you watch more basketball, you will learn to appreciate the difference between "defense" and "couldn't find the rim with a pair of bloodhounds and a Garmin."

(See The Atlanta Braves)

The Braves, and..for more relevance..other football teams are built around the whole "Team Sport" aspect..but they usually don't win championships. Browns, Lions, J-E-T-S..etc.

Anyway, when you say "Best"..do you mean Best Record, or Champion?

Best Record--New England

Champion--Wait for it....Detroit.

Did I say anything about the Colts?? (I know, I know - Pacers sig and Indianapolis residency). The Colts won't win until they get a defense and an offense that proves it can move the ball outdoors in slop (or not lose early in the season so that they can play the entire playoffs at the RCA Dome). We'll see in February whether the Pats can make it 3 in a row. I'm surprised you didn't give me the one reason New England has a better than legitimate chance of winning #3 - Tom Brady.

The problem I have with the Patriots is that even though Belichick runs the defense and they promoted the new coordinator from within, it is still a change. I haven't heard anything about them hiring a new coordinator to replace Charlie Weis - do they have an offensive coordinator yet? One of the joys of success in the NFL is that it is tough to continue to stay successful because "the system" causes you to lose key contributors (not necessarily your best players) to free agency while the coaching staff gets cherry-picked.

As for Bruschi, don't tell me that his energy won't be missed. Ty Law and Deion Branch will also be missed, but Lawyer Milloy was also supposed to be missed. The Patriots were middle of the pack last year in pass defense - commendable considering the injuries - but it was the front 7 that was the strength and Bruschi was the ringleader. Somebody will need to step up.

Belichick is building a coaching career that is comparable to Vince Lombardi's, but he can't do it alone - remember those five years in Cleveland.

I think if the Colts can get Ty Law, they may have a shot to take down the NE juggernaut. they also drafted a CB in the first round, correct? Their D should be upgraded this year, bt i still don't know if they can beat the Pats.

I think a team that may shock a ton of people is the Vikings. Everyone knows about Culpepper. Sure, Moss is gone, but they got a playmaker to replace him, and their D should be excellent this year.

Just look at their D line: Pat Williams, Kevin Williams, Kenichi Udenze and new addition Erasmus James. Plus they got Winfield, and Sharper in the backfield.

Theyre my early favourites for NFC North title, and possibly NFC overall title.

AFC-wise, if JP Losman doesn't have too many growing pains, I can see the Bills in the playoffs. Willis is just beginning to show what he can do, and the Bills D is the best in the division, and possibly the league.
