People rooting for more than one team?

I've noticed people starting to have more than one team that's "their team". When did this all start? As far as I'm concerned, you got ONE team, and that's your team for GOOD. You can have players on other teams you like/admire, maybe a team you wish success on when your team gets bounced from the playoffs, but at the end of the day, you onlu got one team that's your team, and it doesn't change unless you have a damn good reason.

This bandwagon plop needs to stop, there needs to be like a bandwagon police or something that cracks down on this shameless jocking.

Anyone else noticed an increase in bandwagoners?

You used to hold me

Tell me that I was the best

Anything in this world I want

I could posses

All that made me want

Was all that I can get

In order to survive

Gotta learn to live with regrets

are we allowed at least 1 team per sport? :)

because i love sports too much to just pick my dallas stars... especially since it's been more than 1 calendar year since they played a game.

give me 1 football, 1 hockey, 1 basketball, 1 baseball, and 1 soccer.... actually, give me 2 soccer. 1 MLS (fc dallas), and 1 international soccer (blackburn rovers).

or do you just mean people who have like 4 baseball teams in their sig?

Awesome, another UWM Panthers fan on the boards! :D

I agree with Coley-Cole, why aren't we allowed more than one team? In baseball, I root for both the Brewers (my hometown team and the team I grew up with) and the Nationals (because I have family in the DC area). I'd be willing to bet that some of us here are transplants that maybe kept their allegiances that they grew up with while adding new ones for their adopted hometowns. Sufficient enough answer for you? ;)

Thanks ICS. <_<

Anyway im gonna say i like a lot of teams. But whats really wrong with that? I have my teams of course that are my favorites, but im gonna list my teams and why i like them

MLB

Giants: My absoulte favorite, my mom is a diehard, ive grown up watching Giants Baseball, and my grandpa was a bat boy for the San Francisco Seals before the Giants moved from NY

Sacramento Rivercats: The closest baseball team to where i live, i love them.

A's: Two reasons, They pay me, and most of those guys went through Sacramento at one point or another

Cardinals: My dad grew up in STL and is a die hard Cards fan. My first ball game with Just him was a Cards game in STL, and that has always meant a lot to me.

Detroit: Im just a casual fan, and i have always kind of felt sorry for them so i root for them whenever they are on.

NFL

(duah) BUCS: i had always liked the loveable losers, but the first time i ever really watched them was against San Fran first game in 97 and they were just electric. Needless to say i fell in love.

RAIDERS: (I get a lot of crap for this one <_< ) the first football game i ever went to was a Raiders-Niners game i think in 95.

NBA

Kings: Closest team to where i live

Golden State: My first B ball game was Warriors vs Clippers when i was like three (Cant remember it, but i still have the ticket stub).

NHL

Sharks: Dude, they are the sharks!!!! I started liking them when i was little, just after i watched Jaws my first time

Flyers: I have no idea why i like this team, but i really really do.

And i have a ton of NCAA teams i like but that could take hours.

Clear some things up? I hope.

Hey, that's BS.

I have one for hockey & baseball. I have two for football and basketball.

Hockey is the Avs for obvious reasons.

Baseball is the Mariners because they were my favorite team before the Rox ever showed up.

Football are the Broncos, always be #1 no matter what, and the Titans because I've been a Titans fan for a long time, but they'll always be behind the Broncos.

Basketball are the Nuggets and the Pistons. Always been a Nuggets fan no matter what and I've been a Pistons fan since they drafted Grant Hill.

You have more than one team in case your team gets knocked out of the playoffs or they are having a bad year, like ICS said.

I have my #1 favourite team in each league, then teams I wish success for once my team has been bounced (aside from 92 and 93, it's an annual event!)...

In baseball I love the Jays, obviously, and supported for the Expos -- I think that's allowed, seperate leagues no? But when it was Jays/Expos, I was always cheerin for Toronto.

In hockey I am a Leafs fan, unfortunately, but also wish success for the other Canadian clubs

Basketball I like the Raptors -- before the Raps existed I was a Blazers fan until they lost the Drexler -- I transferred to Reggie and the Pacers until the Raps came to town. I guess now I'm wishing success for Steve Nash and the Suns for obvious reasons.

Football... After the Flutie Fiasco in Buffalo I have been without a favourite team, I really enjoyed watching the Bills every Sunday until that incident, haven't been able to follow a team consistantly since. Although I do find myself leaning towards the Colts for some reason, maybe cause they're moving here one day ;)

I have secondary favorites, but if they're playing my favorite--well then they're the bad guys for that game.

NHL -my team is the Flames (or will be when they're back playing)-so I also cheer on the Lock Monsters--but next year will cheer for Omaha in the AHL.

But I have secondary teams as well-they were around before the Flames were in Calgary and I couldn't dump them.

My main secondary team is Montreal because of when I started watching the NHL--I was a big Cournyer & Dryden fan--

I also liked the North Stars because of the Gumper and their cool uniforms...while the lustre faded with the move to Dallas it's still kind of there...

And I like the ISles when they were awful--and saw them get great-Billy, Mike, Clark, Brian, Butch, and the best of all--Bobby Nystrom.

But none of their games get my attention like a Flames one does.

In a 30 team league I don't see a problem with secondary favorites...

Especially when they're not in the same divisions.

In the CFL--well no secondary favorites-

but I do cheer for Eastern teams against the Esks Lions, Riders and Bombers as that usually helps the Stamps...

So my order would be

1-Stamps

2a-East division

2b-Risers, Bombers

3-Lions

4-Eskimos

But I only cheer for the Stamps...

?said the person with University of Minnesota and Wisconsin-Milwaukee listed in the signature.

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Anyway, why is OK to hate 4 teams, but not OK to pull for two?

I think if you honestly follow and root for more than one team, then it OK. Bandwagon fans suck, but to say tht you can ONLY follow one team is total horse flop.

I grew up watching the Sabres and the Leafs. Since they were in different conferences and rarely played each other, it's acceptable that I cheer for both.

Now, if you're somone who didn't start following hockey until after both teams were in the same division, then I would hope that you only pick one.

I will say, some people give really stupid reasons for picking a favorite.

I agree with only one team.

If you want to like multiple teams...fine. Nobody's stoping you.

Just don't claim "we" for all of them.

Those that claim 'we' have problems anyway. (I do it)

The Gophers/UWM thing is probably cause they are different divisions.

I root for Illinois and Carthage. But its D1 and D3. Collleges I don't have a problem with, mainly cause if you go to one, you have to root for them. But you may have grown up rooting for another.

I just disagree when you are rooting for teams that are in the same league. You want an AL team and an NL team...ok. I used to do that, but that was until the two meet in the world series and then I hated the AL team.

Go Cardinals! Go Bears! Go Illini! Go Redmen! :D

Favorites:

MLB- Red Sox

NHL - Bruins

NFL - Patriots

NCAA - Boston College, UMass (except for hockey, that would be UMass-Lowell)

AHL- Lowell LockMonsters. I will root for other New England teams once Lowell gets eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs, so go Bruins!

Minor League Baseball- Lowell Spinners (NY-P), Portland SeaDogs, NH FisherCats (closest team by mileage), PawSox

other teams I like to watch:

MLB- Braves, Twins, any team with Lowell Spinners alumni

NHL- Ottawa, Colorado, Carolina & Calgary (to see LockMonsters alumni)

NFL- Packers

Back-to-Back Fatal Forty Champion 2015 & 2016

The Gophers/UWM thing is probably cause they are different divisions.

UWM is Division I (just like Minnesota), and has been since 1991. Granted, the Horizon League is nowhere near the Big Ten in terms of stature, but it's still a D-I conference...

I kind of agree. But I admit that when my team is out, there is usually someone else I am cheering for.

FOr example, the Wolves missed the playoffs and I am pulling for Dallas now because they have two players from my school--U of Wisconsin.

If Dallas were to win it all, I would not go crazy like if the Wolves did, but they are definately the team I am pulling for.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

You are right...crap.

For some really really dumb reason...

I always get Milwaukee Lutheran and UW-Milwaukee mixed up.

I must have had a friend that went to both or something.

I just can't say that I truely hate a team. I just can't. It is possible that I may hate a teams uniforms or a certain player from a team, but I can't passionately say I hate them. I don't mind fans who root for their teams and have realistic expectations, but I hate ones who are so blindly biased for them and will twist any stats into "proof" that their team will win, no matter how badly the odds are stacked against them and will then whine up the yin-yang any reason at all why their team did not deserve to lose. This even counts for teams I like.

I also do not like people who say they hate teams just because they are geographical or historical rivals. It seems like a cheap way out of liking a team. It would make more sense and reason to declare that their fans are ignorant or act like jerks or something like that. I could care less if a person loves something or takes no interest in it passively, but you had BETTER have a damn good excuse for NOT liking it or HATING it.

I do however always pick favorites in every sporting event I watch. There may be a different reason why I would pick one team over another one game and a different reason why I pick one team over another during another game. Unless I happen to like a certain team more, I'll usually root for the home team. Unlike some people I know, I enjoy watching a sport, even when my team isn't playing it. I'm a fan of the game first, then a fan of a team. Rarely, a fan of a player. If I ever buy a jersey, I'll almost always put my name and number on the back of it. (Unless it's the Ottawa Senators, then it's my uncle's name, which is not-coincidentally the same, and his number.) I actually like people who do this more than people who buy a player jerseys. If the player went and pulled a Paul Kariya or a Todd Bertuzzi, you'd probably look foolish in their jerseys. This is the primary reason why I don't bother with them, but it is not to say I would never EVER buy one. I've had my eye on a game-worn Shaun Van Allen for a while. And damn if a black Lightning jersey with Andreychuk 25 on the back and the 2004 Stanley Cup patch and the Captain's C would not look cool.

Even though I don't passionately love very many teams, there are many many sports uniforms I'd love to own just for the sake of owning and wearing them. Don't blame me that they look fantastic. Most of these uniforms I like are for teams that I very well could find myself rooting for if the time ever came up. (i.e. a team who's ultra-awesome jersey I found for cheap at a clothing store last year just happened to be in the championship game today, I'd wear it about town to show my support.)

BTW, for those caring, I do have a top five NHL teams that I will root for IN ORDER at all times but #1 always is and will be the Ducks. Why do I root for five teams? Maybe I like the fans of that team...maybe it's just very convenient to root for the team...maybe the team has such fantastic uniforms that I want one so very badly...maybe I had a relative playing for the team...any one of these reasons are legitimate. In the MLB, I guess it's the Jays, but I find myself growing fond of other teams for whatever reasons that really should be of no concern. In the NFL, it's Steelers first and always, not chance of change. In the NBA, I have no favorites at all, have no intention of ever buying any merchandise, but still enjoy watching it every now and then.

But to those that have a problem with it...why do you have a problem with it? How does someone else's choices to do something that has no effect on you have an effect on you? If they want to do it, let them. They have just as much right to do it as you do to not do it. What if a person actually is able to passionately root for several teams in one league?

Besides, maybe they're not really "bandwagon-jumpers" but are just "collectors of championship merchandise" (which actually sounds like a cool hobby).

If you feel the need to question me on anything I said here, feel free to ask. I'm open all week.

Your Damn right. I can truely say that there is only one team that i truely cannot stand. I may say i hate a team after they have beaten my team down, but i get over it. Anyway the only team i hate is the Dodgers, and i wouldnt like them even if i wasnt a Giants fan. Ill get into that one later, its quite a long story.
