A few years ago when the Phils did the 80's throwbacks, I believe they used the regular red bp helmets. Also, they used rounded names like most teams use today rather than the arched Braves-style names that they really used back in the 80's.

You are correct on both points, although like VD said they did correct the helmet thing by 2003.

Another bad game was in S.F. in '92 or '93 when they wore the gray/ black "PHILS" jerseys. They had the black caps, but had red helmets.

BBTV raises an interesting question: who is responsible for putting together a TBTC night? I am guessing it is up to the promotions department of the home team, but I cannot say for sure. Consider:

1. The Phillies, who've always done a very good job putting these things on in Philadelphia, looked incomplete during a game in San Francisco. I don't remember that game, but I'd guess that the Giants were dressed with more attention to the details. And for the record, the Phillies generally do a good job outfitting the road team in their throwbacks.

2. Many people have made the point that the Dodgers wore their 1959 uniforms in the TBTC game at Comiskey, which was a year in which they lost the World Series to the White Sox. It doesn't seem likely that the Dodgers would come up with the idea on their own to wear uniforms of a team that lost the World Series, then go out and play the team that beat them that year in their '59 throwbacks. So are the White Sox responsible for getting the uniforms made for the opposition to pull off the whole concept, or did the Dodgers agree to this and chip in?

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

actually, the Dodgers won that series...I know they raised a stink when the Giants wanted to do "Shot Heard Round the World" throwback night one year though (IIRC the Dodgers refused to do it, so it didn't happen)

Your facts aren't all on base there- the Dodgers WON in 1959.

My facts are wrong. I misread what some of the other posters had said. I stand corrected. And I stand full of shame.

The WS are wearing the regular season sox

Pretty lame how the hat "sox" doesn't match the jersey "sox." Even way back then they could have matched them up.

Actually, now that I'm staring at the pictures for about a half hour, are those sox jerseys not white?

I'm a bit confused, are you implying that the throwback hats are wrong? The hat font is exactly what was worn in '59

They appeared to be creme colored, ala the current Giants unis.

That's not what I meant. I know that the throwback hats are accurate, I meant that it was lame for them to be different even back then. As reproductions the Sox seem to have done a fine job.

I don't know if that jersey is cream, but it definately isn't white. Whatever it is I really like it, except that it looks dirty when you can see the bright white stripe on the stirrups. If they were to switch to something like this uniform the stirrups or socks should be either solid or just have red stripes.

BBTV (correctly) pointed out that the cap logo and jersey logo, which both say "SOX", are of different fonts. In the same way that the Tigers today have slightly different Olde English "D" logos on the caps and jerseys. That's what he meant - the reproductions appear spot-on, down to the off-white jerseys and 1959-style numeral fonts.
