My 2¢

The refs made the right call.

The Trojans might not have established themselves as the greatest team ever, but they certainly have that team of destiny feel about them.

I personally can still not believe that the Trojans went for it, I thought for sure we were going into OT.

... in other news. Did anyone see the finish to the Penn State/Michigan game minutes before the finish of the USC Notre Dame game? Not to mention the finish in the Alabama/Mississippi game?

I saw it, and saw a stupid coaching decision by Paterno. Why not force Michigan to attempt the extra point?

Well, the Irish do have a gripe with Leinart's final sneak into the endzone (If you saw the final play, Reggie Bush pushed Leinart into the endzone).

Technically, this is a 15 yard penalty. But, they never call this penalty.

As for the game, give both teams credit. Give Notre Dame credit for smacking USC around and nearly doing what so many have failed these last two years and give USC credit for doing what championship teams do best: Stepping up when it matters.

Edit: This is one of those rules that might just be a college-only penalty. It's a ten yard penalty. (Source: Football Rules)

No, it's not.

Leinart spun his way into the endzone, anyways. Bush didn't even push him really.

Really? I did not know that. Why is that illegal, though?

Because if it was legal than people like William Perry could literally chuck their running backs into the endzone.

Not that that ever happened though. :ninja:

------------------

I didn't see the actual push in question, but even if Leinart was pushed I still think he would've made it in regardless.

USC is the biggest joke of a number one team they win games buy pulling ridiculous BS out of that pretty boy matt leinarts a$$. I hope he breaks his leg and never plays football in the NFL. Good thing the Pac10 officials won the game against notre dame. Hook em horns!! texas is the real number one team in the country.

I don't know, USC looked pretty damn good to me. Having seen both Texas and USC, I'd have to put my money on the pretty boy and his Trojans...by about 21. Sorry but that's the way I see it. Texas is good. USC is great. But that's why they play the games. Hopefully we'll settle it in the Rose Bowl. :D

How did the Trojans cheat?? I wanna hear your conspiracy theory. :therock:

He didn't say they did. He said he wants to believe that somehow they did... that's a lot different than an accusation.

My beef is with the spot of the ball on that final play. The fumble happened at about the 1, and was fumbled backwards out of bounds. They somehow got the ball well inside the 1 yardline.

Yes, I know. I just wanted to hear him vent on Carroll and Leinart. ^_^

But you do have a good point. Maybe the ball was placed on the 1 because the ball was knocked out/last touched by a Notre Dame player, the ball is placed where Leinart had posession it last. That's all I can really come up with.

relax curty, I acknowledged that you guys won fair and square. No conspiracy theory from me, just me being an ND fan. we're supposed to hate SC, remember?

It's considered "aiding" or "helping" the ballcarrier. The player with the ball cannot be pushed forward by one of his teammates. All forward progress must be on his own. Otherwise it's a 15-yard penalty.

This is different from a big scrum that slowly moves down the field. In that case, the blockers are usually pushing the defenders downfield As long as the blockers are pushing the file downfield, and not specifically the ballcarrier, it's a legal play.

And form what I saw, Leinart spun around and fell into the endzone on his own. He had crossed before any of his teammates touched him.

Oh ND should join a confrence there is no need for Independants any more.

[Lee Corso]Not so fast, my friend![/Lee Corso]

If Notre Dame joins a conference, you can be your bottom dollar they lose that SWEET television deal with NBC. They are the only school that has a national television contract. Wonder why? Because they are the only "Independent" national football power.

Stop hating, Tank. It was an absolutely GREAT college football game. Instant classic, even. The better team won, the more talented team won, and Notre Dame has shown me more in this defeat than they have in their victories over Sisters of the Poor and St. Mary's School for the Deaf and Blind.

USC has a horrible defensive secondary, a so-so rush defense, but that offense is insanely good. Their talent is absolutely unbelievable.

Notre Dame has some skill on both sides of the ball, but just not enough to be a top-10 team. But they're knocking on the door. You can bet they'll be right up there in terms of recruiting as long as Charlie Weis is there. ND is going to be a beast next year, but this year should be the year of the Trojan (again).

Notre dame Alwasy plays a tough schedule.

They played Michigan and Michigan State two strong teams

Purdue and Washington are down a bit this year as is Pitt, but they are usually Top 25 teams.

Add USC to that and Notre Dame being 4-2 is great, but its time for a Conference they should be in the Big 10.

They should actually be in the Big East. They should only be in the Big 11 if Penn State leaves and goes to the Big East...lol.

I know this is a rule in the NFL, but curious about the NCAA. After Leinart's fumble, during all of the confusion, a USC coach ran all the way down the sideline and got in the officials' faces and started calling timeout, along with at least one player on the field. In the NFL, when you don't have a timeout or try to call more than one consecutively, I believe that's a 15 yard unsportsmanlike delay of game. If this is the case, I don't see why this wasn't called. I understand letting the players play, and am in no means whining, because I really could care less who won, just wanted a good game, but if you're going to have these rules in the book, they should be called.

By the way, that will go down in history as one of the top 10-20 games ever, and I had to miss it for work. Thank God I still have my trusty VCR. Great game

EDIT:I checked myself, and it appears that a 5 yarder could've been called, but I am glad it wasn't, just something that caught my eye.

I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow
