robbman21
...does anyone think the Cubs will/should go out and make a serious play for the post season next year? When I mean serious I mean like the Marlins in '97 or the Yankees pratically every season. The foucs will definitely be on them now as both of the Sox have gotten off the shnide,so why not?Thoughts?? wheateater
I thought the exact same thing and posted it just a minute ago in the WS thread.I don't think it'll happen because the Cubs are eternally doomed for some reason, but it'd definitely seem fitting for the longest droughts in baseball to end. 86 years, 88 years, then 98 years? It could happen, but I doubt it. There's something mystical about losing streaks that long, and it kinda seems disappointing (better word?) when they end the drought. But who knows for sure? We'll find out eventually, I guess... Cujo
True. The '03 Cubs would have beat the '05 White Sox. That 2003 Cubs team was something special.

I can't even think about the 2003 season without wanting to punch something....the only thing that could have been worse than the Sox winning it would have been the Cards winning it....as is, I still feel like punching something....effing White Sox Millican StudiosMillican Studios Blog

FirearmofMutiny
You kidding? There has NEVER been more pressure on the Cubs to win than now. I could see them going Yankees on the bit this offseason.
CMUBrent
So with the Red Sox winning last year and the White Sox winning this year, do the Cleveland Indians now own the longest championship drought in the American League?
Anomalied
Word on the street is that the Trib Co is in serious debt. Hopefully they'll sell the franchise to a guy like Mark Cuban who can go bananas in the free agent market. The Cubs signing Furcal is almost a guarantee. I'd also be happy to see them go after Millwood, Giles, or maybe Damon. Then we could make a serious run for the championship. But right now, well, let's just say I'll be in hibernation all winter. FiddySicks
one thing ive realized from this World Series is, im really starting to find a strong dislike for Red Sox fans. The thing that pisses me off is that for at least ten years every year, all year long all i heard was Red Sox fans bitching and moaning that its been sooooo long since they last won a World Series, i didnt know untill about an hour ago that it took the White Sox two years LONGER than it did the Red Sox to win a world series. Why is it that White Sox fans were so much more quiet about their drought in between World Series wins? Does it have anything to do with class? Im kind of starting to think so. Red Sox fans are really starting to remind me of that spoiled little rich kid who complains when he doesnt get his way. Red Sox fans are really starting to remind me of that spoiled little rich kid who complains when he doesnt get his way. The reason is because of the heartbreak for the Red Sox that the White Sox never had to deal with. Bucky Dent in 1978, Pesky in 1946, Boone in 2003, Buckner in 1986...I could go on, but you get the point. The Red Sox overcame their own history. The White Sox were never teased with the promise of victory like Boston was.

By one year. And the Red Sox had good teams and made it deep in the playoffs, they just lost the 7th game of the World Series...3 times.I'm pretty sure the White Sox pretty much sucked for a long time and didn't do a whole lot of "teasing" their fans.(Edit: Well, unwind beat me to it. But yeah, that's it.)
HedleyLamarr
By one year. It took the Red Sox 86 years to win a World Series. It took the White Sox 88 years. My Atlanta math tells me that's a difference of two years.
phayze
Whats even crazier then both the Sox winning the WS in back to back years, is that back in May, one user on another forum bet another user that the White Sox would sweep the Astros in the WS. They agreed that the loser would have to pay the other $1000 dollars. On several occasions the evenutal loser tried to contact the other user to legitimize the bet. He even tried again 2 games into the WS. He got no reply each time. Therefore he says he's not going to pay him now.Oh yeah, did I say this happened in May too. Crazy stuff indeed.
