TruColor
Am I the only person that really likes the Rays current look? I think the move to green caps has really made it one of the better looking "new looks." If they made the "TB" white on the green cap they would look perfect in my opinion. The problem in my eyes isn't the logo, but the colors. Three dark colors and White...not the smartest of ideas:Too dark. They need to lighten at least ONE of those colors...I've said in other threads that it should probably be both the Blue AND the Green:
Grass 2 Graphics
I suppose it's possible that they might have thought of using these. I know Boston has used the red cap with navy B as an alternate, and the Mariners used a teal version of their regular cap but no teal compass rose alternate. But of course, there's no way to know for sure if these were ever planned and then scrapped before a season, other than your catalog's say-so. So I guess it depends on your definition. I would define it as whether it was actually worn on-field, but if you have a source you trust, then use that. But I know there were a lot of these caps sold, but never worn on-field.The funny thing is, now that I think about it, it would make perfect sense for these to have been planned and then scrapped, which would explain why they are not as gaudy as strict fashion caps, and very similar to the on-field versions. You may be onto something after all. I'm pretty sure in the mid-nineties the Bo-Sox wore the white crown, with navy bill and red B hat at home, only on sundays. Like everyone and their brother does now with special sunday hats and/or jerseys. Astros, Red Sox, White sox, Brewers etc.. The white-crowned hat lasted as long as the Orioles, Pirates and Royals infamous gray-crowned hats did in 1994-95.

sacker12
Closest thing I could find. (I know it's the opposite) It's exactly the reverse of this cap. Purple crown, black bill. I own the hat but I can't find photo evidence that it was worn in actual game play. The same with the teal version of the DBacks cap that came out the same year. It was Teal with a Purple Bill, and another white DBacks cap. I have all three of these hats but I'm not sure if they were ever worn. I consulted my Diamondbacks media guides (which I have collected since their 1998 inaugural season) and have confirmed w/ photographic evidence my recollection that they did, in fact, wear the white caps w/ purple bills -- at least during Spring Training.I don't recall seeing (nor can I find a photograph of) the club wearing the teal caps w/ purple bills.I believe that during their first couple years, Arizona wore purple caps and home and black caps w/ teal bills on the road. All the two-toned caps were hideous. They dropped them not a moment too soon. Now if we can just get them to switch to black caps full-time, w/ black pinstripes at home and no pinstripes on the road.A boy can dream.GO DIAMONDBACKS! Muchos Gracias Amare, that info is very useful. Yes, I do remember the Backs having white hats with purple bills. Didn't they also have a teal hat, too? They had four official 1998 caps - all with the "A" logo:Cream with Purple billAll PurpleTurquoise with a Purple billBlack with a Turquoise billThen they also had the all-Black batting helmet - with the "D" snake logo. DG_ThenNowForever
I found this buried on my hard drive: I remember looking a listing of MLB baseball caps and seeing all of the available caps for the Diamondbacks, Devil Rays, Mets (did they have a white alt cap then? Not sure). This was in 1998. Then I saw how the Yankees had exactly one baseball cap and won 114 games that season. I wonder if there's a correlation. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
griffin128
The mets indeed had a white cap. They wore it handful of times then retired it because some players though it made them look like ice cream men with a whole white uni.

Evan
i actually own the diamond backs cap brought up a bit agoas seen here, i got it ohh a while ago (5 years plus). It was on clearnece at Champs sports for 5 dolalrs. I did also see many devil rays hats. The old TB logo on it but i dont remember much else about them. This hat however is nice because it always seems a little out of place. I still really like this hat. I can't wear it because it is a 7 1/4 and I have grown into a 7 5/8 (I still tried though, note the cut mark in the MLB logo). Its a 59/50 New Era and has a slightly raised logo (the black part is). jgladding
don't remember where I read it (MLB.com?), but TB is considering scrapping the Devil Rays name, logos, colors, everything, alltogether. I think it's been a disaster from the start and they want to recreate a new history, identity. This is why their website has this whole "Under Constuction" theme to it... That will be for 2007, the 10th anniversary, if they do, they have to notify MLB by March 31st.They are also talking about building a new stadium in Tampa and ditching The Trop.
