The NHL Off-season

Recommended Posts

I'm pretty happy with the moves the Wild made. Demitra is the ONE guy I wanted them to sign last year during free agency, so I'm happy we have him, but still a bit down about having to give up a first rounder and a exciting prospect in O'Sullivan.

Keith Carney will be nice to have, but a steady, stay-at-home defenseman hardly gets the blood pumping for next year, no matter how good they are, you know what I mean?

Kim Johnsson is a nice addition, but man did we pay a lot for him. It sounds like he was in demand and we missed out on getting Rob Blake and were determined to not miss out on another guy who could add scoring from the blueline.

Parrish has everyone excited. They are making him sound like the next coming of Phil Esposito in the paper for his ability to stand in front of the net and bang in the ugly goals. Personally, I have to take a few points off for him getting extra buzz for being a "local" guy. Even if he's not the next Phil Esposito, I'd settle for the next Dino Ciccarelli.

They are still making noise like they may add a role player or perhaps make a trade before all is done.

Of the couple of names that have come up, Jarkko Ruuttu is the most interesting because everyone here in the Twin Cities HATES him with a PASSION. I'm not sure if we'd embrace him or not. It could be fun to watch him piss off everyone else, but perhaps the idiotic trips to the penalty box would be too much along with that smug little face of his. I've never automatically liked a guy just becuase he was on my team. I hated every moment we had Willi Plett when I was younger and may just do the same with a player like Jerk-O Ruuttu.

As for a trade...Pronger is still out there and if we were willing to go after Rob Blake, one never knows... :hockeysmiley:

Chris Pronger is now an Anaheim Duck!

In return, the Oilers get Joffrey Lupul, an unknown defenceman and some draft picks.

--Roger "Time?" Clemente.

Im surprised they went the Draft Pick Route, I would think Edmonton would want something now.

Pretty sad that the Leafs offer Kaberle ( sp ?) and Tucker, but instead they go for draft picks. I laught at Lowe for such a stupid trade.

Anyways does anyone have any leafs rumor update. One i hear is that Gary Roberts trade is done, and is on his way. But i say i'll belive when i see it.

Ladislav Smid is an unknown defenseman? The way the Ducks have been talking him up the last couple of years, you'd think he's the next Pronger himself. According to TSN.ca...

Smid, 20, was the Ducks' top defence prospect and was rated as the 10th-best prospect in The Hockey News Future Watch issue. The Czech native also has good size at 6-foot-3, 204 pounds.

The 9th overall pick in 2004, Smid had 28 points and a plus-14 rating with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League last season.

Overall, two players and three potential picks is a pretty big cost for Pronger. Especially when Lupul and Smid were seen as the foundation for the Ducks for years to come. But I figure that with Niedermayer and Pronger back there now, it's gonna make Bryzgalov's job a lot easier (or Giguere's, if they ever go back to him).

Looks like Giggy will now get flipped for a forward and to free up some cash for Pronger.

I'm surpised RC has yet to post a Pronger jersey, even on an old Ducks jersey. He is probably still in a high that his team has two of the leagues best D-men.
