See Red
Heh. Nice, TCR. Guillen definetely deserves to be suspended. His act was cute last year but it's getting old quick.

Mariotti is a moron therefore he probably deserved to be called a derogatory, insensitive term for homosexuals...Makes sense to me. Who cares, indeed. The_Admiral
Psst! It kind of reflects poorly on your organization when your manager publicly calls a member of the Chicago media a :censored:ing fag, you see. Then again, we're talking about a club where flagrant unprofessionalism is not only allowed, but celebrated. By the way, Mariotti also has a feud going with Hawk Harrelson. I think everybody's gotta be on Jay's side for THAT one. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Eye
Well, unless this derrogatory word applies to Mariotti, then I don't see how he can be offended. However, Ozzie should not be making remarks like that.

DEAD!
I just love his explanation of using the term....Guillen defended his use of the term "fag" by saying this about homosexuals and the use of the word in question: "I don't have anything against those people. In my country, you call someone something like that and it is not the same as it is in this country.''yeah, he meant to call him a cigarette, right? I hope we don't see the managerial version of John Rocker here..... I saw, I came, I left.

However, Ozzie should not be making remarks like that. So, can I call you a :censored:ing fag in the Chicago Tribune (with out knowing if you are or aren't one)? It doesn't matter if the word applies to Mariotti or not. It's the principal of Ozzie calling him a derrogatory word. It's childish, and not befitting of a Major League manager...Moose

You're exactly right, that it is about the principle of Ozzie making a homophobic remark. What I was getting at is the fact that Ozzie is making himself look bad and is insulting those who the remark was not aimed toward.

jkrdevil
I can't believe no one picked up one this line form the article. Guillen also told Couch that he has gay friends, attends WNBA games, went to a Madonna concert and plans to go to the Gay Games in Chicago. Can I just say this both need to shut up. What Ozzie said was offensive. It associates a group of people with Mariotti and that is wrong. That said it's not like Mariotti has never said a stupid thing before. Ozzie should be suspended though. You can't use that language.
sscrunner06
Thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought this story was a bit ironic. That picture was the first thing I thought of when I heard this. In any case, it seems that Ozzie is out of control. No matter how much he hates Mariotti, this kind of behavior is simply unacceptable. His behavior is quickly escalating into a negative distraction for the Sox. I really think the MLB needs to take some kind of stand, even if it is just a fine.

slapshot
Guillen is a few bricks short of a pile.Normally, a team is given carte blanche for winning games and acting responsible for a few seasons after winning the championship. Unfortunately for Ozzie, he's crossed the line with his behavior and comments lately.Maybe it's time for the White Sox to show some balls and give Guillen some unpaid time off. Or even kick his ass to the curb. If he calls out his players for not being man enough to hit opponents, then he should be man enough to take whatever punishment is handed to him.
