Ga Tech Batting Helmets

Recommended Posts

as a former player who played for a team with goofy batting helmets I can tell you that the players don't like them anymore than we do. In high school our helmets were glittery green with swoops and stripes like that. Our athletic director had no idea what he was doing. He figured that we could share with the softball team. We all hated them, so I can't imagine the GT players feel good about wearing these.

Wouldn't it just be easier to allow the helmet makers to put their logo somewhere on the helmet in an out of the way spot (on the back, maybe)? Instead, since ABC made copying their (sane, understated, classic) design impossible, now every equipment maker must do something rash to make sure you know it's their helmet. The CoolFlo helmets were bad enough, but these are a step down from that. 3 colors? Unnecessary vents and contours? Oversized earholes? Come on, show some common sense. This isn't "performance headgear", and it's not going to prevent concussions any more or less than other helmets; this is overkill in branding. STOP IT.

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

Way off-topic here, but, does this happen in a lot of Major League cities? The Huskies are playing Oregon State at Safeco next Friday and I'm wondering if other colleges take advantage of the big boys being on the road and play a game or two in the stadiums?

Tech & Ga. play 3 games a season-> 1 @ Tech, 1 @ Ga, and 1 @ Turner Field

The neutral field game is a charity game for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and they hold that at Turner Field because it can handle the large crowd, which is usually ~20,000

(I think the all time NCAA baseball attendance record was set at this game a couple years back with 28,000 +)

I think they rarely play more than one game a year in a pro stadium. having said that, the ACC baseball tournament is at Fenway next year.

Paging Georgia Tech. Call on line one from a Mr. Tron. He wants his helmet back.

Actually, my main problem with this is the color. That light shade of gold on white looks like some kind of weird angelic-warrior thing, like something out of an anime version of the Left Behind books. It's just strange and non-athletic looking to me.

I know San Diego State plays in Petco and looking at their schedule, they played Michigan this year. None of the LA/Orange County Schools play at either Anaheim Stadium or Dodger Stadium. It's a cool idea.

Milwaukee (UWM) ususally does an annual doubleheader with the Brewers.

[GA Tech phone line]RRRRRRRRRRIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGG!

[GA Tech eqipment manager] Hello?

[New York Mets] Hello, Georgia Tech baseball team?

[GA Tech equipment manager] Yes, this is us.

[New York Mets] We just wanted to tell ho how much we love those new batting helmets you guys wore the other night. Where can we find those for our team? We only have two colors on ours now; but we'd LOVE to have a BLACK one trimmed in blue and orange!!!

[GA Tech equipment manager] Are you sure? WE DON'T EVEN LIKE THEM! But then, we don't like yours, either...

[New York Mets] We don't care that you don't like your helmets; we LOVE them! Anything to make our player have the most innovatively designed, most unique batting helmets, we will do. Now WHERE CAN WE FIND THEM, DAMN IT?!

[GA Tech equipment manager] Find out for yourself, buddy!

[GA TECH PHONE HANGS UP.]

I never liked how baseball helmets fit. They were clunky - which was the reason I hated running the bases...this coming from a speedy soccer forward that should have been a good base stealer at the HS level at least. These things look bad, but look like they are comfortable.

Lafayette and Lehigh played each other at Citizens Bank Park earlier in April. Pretty strange, considering the schools are a good 60-90 minutes north of Philadelphia.
